The guy at the brick and mortar store where I bought my Ego said that a pass-thru wasn't necessary on my first purchase (i was a new vaper) as it only allowed you to supply power to your Ego while charging. In other words, you're still hitting off the battery while its charging which implies that if the battery is dead and you plug it in that you wouldn't get any vapor. I have a hard time believing this. Can someone here confirm? I'd like a way to get full power while I'm sitting in front of my PC if possible - irregardless of whether or not the battery is at 100% or 50%.

Going to be picking up a VV soon so hopefully I'll get better output than what I have now with my Ego batts. I have a 650 and a 900 or 1000 (I forget). Off the charger, the 650 hits really good and if a pass thru will give me consistent performance then that's what I need for now.

Thanks!

ego 650mah p/t is great... i've had one for a year (only used it on and off) but now i find i am using it daily, like all day in front of my computer (and night)... but i have a few PV's and i like to change things up throughout the day.
I find it works great on LR attys (1.7 to 2.0.... i don't dare use 1.5 just 'cause they say it could be bad for the batt).
You pretty much CAN use it on a dead batt... but i never let it die all the way, so i might be wrong about that but how long before it gets enough charge ? then you can use it while connected from there... no big deal...
in fact I mostly use it plugged in... half the time i take it off when full and use it a couple hours off the cable, then it's back on.

My 650 hits alot better. I dont know the specs vs the 900 but I'm guessing it puts out more voltage or something. Do the Ego-C batteries put out consistant voltage under load? The 650 is an Ego-C and the 900 is a T. Doesn't seem like they do but I could be wrong. In which case, would a PT help in this regard? Would seem pointless otherwise. I guess my question is are there any other benefits to a PT other than always having a charge, AKA full voltage?

i just bought a couple different ego batts... but i made sure i looked for 1. "regulated" voltage.... only the better ego bats are, and even though its 3.3v, when regulated, you get the consistent volts all the time and you can tailor your atty resistance to that... 1.7 to 2.0 Ohms. love it.
2. there are many different ego clones with ego name and some different names, and some are not regulated, and some have higher voltage.
3. i bought a 1000mah "genuine joye" ego from cignot.com just because he says it's the real thing and regulated 3.3v.
4. I bought a kgo from hoosierecig.com ... he says they are Riva and true 3.7 voltage... which will be good for higher resistance LRs and most SR (2.5 to 3.0 Ohms).

I've been using only Joye 650 PT's for months now. I do like them because when you vape w/ it plugged in and fully charged most of the time- you get great hits. On the other hand, they are only 3.4 MAX. I don't like using anything under a 2.0 Bogelr, so sometimes I find myself going for my old Riva 3.7's.

I'm thinking about trying the new batts they have at Smokeless Image- they come in three sizes and they are all REGULATED at 3.7. Only thing is- they're 808's and you have to put an adapter on.

The reason your vendor told you that was because the voltage from your PC or wall adapter is 5v and the amps is in the mili-amp range. Thats enough power to "maintain" or charge the pass-threw, however if you tried to use it when the battery was dead, plugged in, it would draw way to much from your PC / Etc.

As silkakc stated you can buy a 2 amp usb adapter and vape to your hearts content. So the answer is yes/no. :)
