Hey all,
I made my first order early this month (July) a copper. Before it arived I purchased 2 510 kits for my wife and I. The 510's arived first on te 9th. Since then Ive ordered adapters, atomizers, tips and drip tips. 7 assorted batteries with chargers. Now I think I want to go with ego. batteries, need to pay some other bills first though.
My thought or concern is: what am I looking for, my "brand"? Since I smoked like a fiend is it just "ok" to go over board because I'm not smoking? Or is this some crazy new compusive spending habit that tapers off at some comfort level, that I hope I reach soon. And finally is this another learned habit from smoking, getting smokes before I run out at that time of day?
Just some thoughts I wanted to toss out there. Im still tabacco free for 9 days, big plus for me.
Thanks for all there is here and all those who put it here,
my name is ....

It really depends on you. For me, Its kind of like my hobby.. Buying new parts, new liquids, writing reviews... So Personally I still spend a bit of money, even a year later. Started in april of 09 and Still get giddy over purchasing more supplies and stalking the mail man.
But I didn't switch to vaping to save money.
My friend switched after I got her to try mine, and she went a little crazy at first buying all the flavors she could get her hands on, multiple kits Etc and now she purchases hardly anything. For her, the novelty wore off and now she just buys what she needs when she needs it and the upkeep is very low financially.

Yes, it does taper off eventually. I think everyone in the first month or two get shocked at how much they are spending on supplies. The first month I think I spent about $400 and the second month about $200. Now I probably don't spend $30 a month because I only need juice supplies and the odd battery or atty. I could probably go for a few months without spending anything as I mix my own juice and have supplies to last about a year, but I like to try a different juice every month and well, if you're already placing an order it's very easy just to add a pack of empty carts or some cartomizers.

The way I look at it is I used to spend about $200 per month on cigarettes so after a few months I was way ahead of the game, so picking up the odd part or juice is OK.

Hi myname, and welcome.
We are in a similar situation where both of us stopped smoking and began vaping on the same day. Because of that, we never bought "a" kit. It was always two at a time.
We went from the SmokeStik RN4081 style (four months) to the M401 styles (1 month) then the Joye 510 (3 months) and finally the Joye eGo (since April). Always two kits at a time. In between were adapters, carts, atomizers, chargers, juice, classifieds buys and so on.
I'm happy to report the spending slowly came under control the longer we were vaping. In fact, our break even point came about two months after we began vaping.
I was a heavy 2-3 pack a day smoker for over 40 years and, like you, kept looking for just the right one. Found it with my tobacco flavored juices in my eGo. Now we just maintain our juice, atty, and occasional battery buy.
I was beginning to think vaping would be a never-ending search process. We finally found ours but many enjoy the hunt more than me and are always searching for the "holy grail". Control (and some luck) is the key.

I spent a lot after I started in the middle of March. I've finally settled down for the most part having reached my comfort zone with the equipment I use and juices. The gadget freak in me still wants to buy more but the raional side is winning for the moment. My eGo does what I need quite well. My last purchase was only for juices that I've settled on as favorites just to keep myself supplied.

Others summed it up nicely. I am having fun trying lots of different stuff but think I am about saturated at this point. I have sold some that I tried out in order to offset buying something new. I look at it as better than smoking so not too concerned. The hobby part of it is partly why it works for me and I don't get bored or pick up cigs again.

I think there are a lot of factors at work here.

I think for some they love to fiddle with gadgets, and want to check out different ones.
I think for some they are always pushing to perfect the vaping experience.
For some it becomes more like a hobby, or they just like shopping.
And I think for some they have a bit of OCD that drives them.

And some people, when they find something that works well enough, just stick with it.
Those are the ones who can save a LOT of money with electronic cigarettes.

Chasing the perfect vape will get expensive.
And it is a chase that may never end.
    :)

Since I'm no longer spending $40/week on a carton of analogs...I've allowed myself to purchase some flavors, nic juice and some spare parts. I want to make sure I always have something to vape on! Quit analogs 24 days ago when my Eluma arrived and I'm not looking back...my lungs are more important than those damn Misty Menthol Silvers ever where! Congrats on being analog free...its a great feeling and over time there will be financial savings not to mention the health benefits!

The money savings wasn't a big factor for me. I was making my own cigs with a tube injector machine and only spending about $20 a week on average for a 30 cig a day habit. Still I project I'll save a little at some point.

One thing I'll stress - don't stop your spending until you've got backups for everything. I don't want to be one of those folks who post about going back to cigarettes because they ran out of something or had a critical component fail.

I started vaping in April 09. I have spent thousands of dollars on different mods and different eliquid. After several mods I finally found one that I love, the GG. It is the ultimate in vaping. I plan on slowing my spending down quite a bit.

I also found if I cut my time spent on this forum I don't spend as much. I would read all of the reviews and just want one more. I am a sucker for a sale so I have to watch out for that.
