I run a 30w istick and an aspire k1 for my tobacco setup. I also have an Aspire Atlantis for my "normal" vape setup and a Doge V2 rda for my "cloud" sessions. That's after buying a bunch of cheaper equipment that I eventually tossed because it lacked in a very bad way.

I used to be a 1-2 pack a day smoker for about 15 years. When I switched to vape, I spent a considerable time looking for my perfect setup. (And way too much money looking for tobacco juices that fit my need)

I really like the istick because with the k1, it lasts about 1.5 days and that's if I'm chain vaping. (And 1/2-3/4 a day with the Atlantis) The k1 tank although smaller than some other systems, has a very familiar draw that really has helped me switched over to PV. (Where as something like the Atlantis can be a little airy until you get the hang of it)

I don't know what your analog of choice was but mine was a Turkish variety. I found Halo Turkish 12mg blend to be perfect for my analog replacement.

Most days I will go between 2-4ml of halo. Which is one to two tanks of the K1.

Another thing I found out (for my taste) is that some of the bigger cloud producing setups required a lower nic level. When I tried a 12mg juice on my Atlantis, not only did it burn my throat and tongue (read:sting like chain smoking a pack of analogs) it made me super nic sick. So I went to 3mg juice for my Atlantis and Doge rda.

After about 5 months now, I'm down to 6mg Turkish @ 13w on my k1 and 3mg juices on my Atlantis @ 25w and rda @ full 30 (and looking for more power).

If I had to start over, I'd get an istick 30w and a k1 right off the batt. Oh, And spend a little on a some juices to find your happy place. One thing I didn't do (but wish I had) was get a bunch of samples 5ml's from a reputable online source. I spent major bucks for some juices locally that I hated. It didn't help that they didn't do samples and didn't let me try any flavors. I've since then found better vendors both online and offline.

There is my long winded 2 cents!

Good luck! I have no doubt once you find the setup you like, it will be relatively easy to quit analogs!

I started with the 12MG it seems to do me fine. When i get craving to go smoke having one vap completely squshishes that need to go outside and have a smoke.. Im really impressed with this stuff. The more online looking up i do the more i run into aticles about vaping is ever worse then smoking..
Not necessarily, there are no standards that allow every element of vaping to be studied and tested. Still a lot less chemicals and hazards than smoking. When I decided to Vape instead of smoking,(Sept 9th 2011) I was scared at first that vaping would not satisfy my need to smoke. While waiting for my 1st order I bought a carton of cigarettes and used them as an excuse not to take vaping seriously. I did not like my 1st set-up (cig a like) I then found the ego batteries with big cotton filled tanks and huge atomizers and ordered 24 mg tobacco flavors that tasted horrible. I spent my 2 week cigarette budget on this set-up and just prayed that it would work and I wouldn't have to buy cigarettes. I vaped instead of smoking for a day, then found a pack of cigarettes in my car, so I had to smoke them instead of vaping, after that, I just started vaping, no more cigs. I could breath better and stopped my little nagging cough. Next paycheck, I rewarded myself with another vape set-up for back-up, then more juice flavors. I stocked up so I would not be short of juice or batteries. If something new came out, I bought it. Vaping became a hobby. I finally found a set-up I enjoyed and stuck with it for 2 years, where I only had to buy an occasional new battery and replacement coils. I learned to DIY my own juices. I was happy and did not feel the need for any further research. I passed my older stuff on to friends and family who would try it and then order bigger better vaping set-ups. I just now, in the past 2 months, decided to do some research and upgrade my vape gear and passed my 2 year old equipment on to my brother (who has already moved on to newer more powerful gear after 2 weeks) I am now sub-ohming and love it. I have ordered my 4th new mod and tank (Stocking up for Vapocolypse) and my nicotine is now between 0 and 6 Mg. I won't let 2 years pass me by now before checking out new stuff. I will keep an eye on new stuff and buy what catches my eye. maybe some day I will decide to stop vaping but not now. Doesn't mean vaping is safe, but most opinions and tests have shown it to be safer.

I want to quit smoking and Ive never tried vaping before, i know very little about it even after spending most of the day online reasearching. So many options out there.

Anyone have some tips on what hardware to start off with around a 50$ budget. Im just trying to beat my nicotine cravings first and slowly move away from that and break the habit.

Anyone here have experience with trying to quit smoking by switching to this method? Much appreciated.

From me I say take it slow and easy. don't beat yourself up if you need to smoke and vape for a while until you get to that point where you will say one or the other and chose vaping. I smoked at home (outside) and vaped when out and at work for three months...then I said no more and it's been almost three years! Take your time.....weed out that cigarette slowly but surely :)

A good kit for a beginner that is set up for advancement would be the Kanger Subox Mini. You can find them for under $60 if you shop around different online vendors. You will need to buy a battery (I recommend 2, Samsung 25R are good and can be gotten for around $10 each) a charger for a 18650 battery ($5 to $20) and then pick up some extra OCC coils 1.5 or 1.2 are good mouth to lung similar to cigarette pulls. Set the wattage around 10 to start and then gradually bump it up to around 15 watts. You can charge and vape on this set-up but I like an extra battery just in case I am out and about, I can just pop in a charged battery. With this set-up you can pick up the .5 ohm coils and venture into sub ohming later down the road, which will also help you in lowering your nicotine. You can also learn how to build your own coils as the Subtank comes with everything you need for that. No worries if you don't want to build your own coils. Most vape shops seem to carry Kanger Subtank OCC Vertical coils. These coils last a crazy long time. I got almost 3 weeks on 1 coil.

Welcome and congratulations on your decision to quit smoking.

When I first began my priorities were getting the nicotine I needed to curb my craving for a cigarette. Next was finances. I only had 60.00 to spend on this endeavor. Another priority was getting the best I could for that small investment. Last of all was the safety of vaping and the need to truly feel as if I'd benefited health wise from switching. Safety was my last priority since common sense told me it was at least as safe as smoking.

Nicotine - A little over two months into this I've found that 18mg more than satisfies my nicotine needs as a former PAD smoker. 24mg was WAY too much for me and 12mg not enough... I was constantly vaping. Lesson learned is that I should go slowly in reducing my nicotine level so that I don't reach for a cigarette. I haven't had one since the day I started vaping. I feel now that I may be able to go to 12mg as the amount of liquid I vape in a day is decreasing.

Price/Quality product - After much research I decided that a 30w Istick and Nautilus Mini were the best pieces of equipment for me as a new vaper. Reasons were ease of use, relatively problem free, quality name brands/good reviews and ability to use more advanced tanks (sub ohm) in the future. So, off to my local B&M I went, hopefully to pick up these items. Well, when I got there I was very disappointed to find that my 60.00 wouldn't touch that equipment (54.95 for the Istick and 34.99 for the Nautilus). Back to the internet to search for something cheaper. Fortunately for me (and my wallet) I was able to find these things much cheaper online. I got the Istick for 19.99 and the Nautilus for 18.99. Big lesson learned is that the local vape shops charge a LOT more for this stuff than online vendors. And, this set up is as good as everyone said it would be. I haven't had any problems whatsoever with it.

Safety - Ok, at first I was sad to see all the talk of dangers of vaping. I thought "What's the point?" But, determined, I sought out credible sources for my information and slowly began to realize that much of the hype on the dangers of vaping were just that. Propaganda used against the vaping community. Nonetheless, I did come across some information that worried me and that is the concerns some have over ingredients in some flavors. That's when I found out that I do have the option to just vape unflavored, PG/VG and nicotine only. Many said that it tastes fine to them and some even preferred it. Being that my first priority was getting nicotine into my system I decided that this would do for me. So, with the last 20 dollars I had to spend, I ordered enough PG, VG, and nicotine to make 300ml of unflavored juice. I got it, mixed it and it was great just as many have said. I've never even vaped a flavor yet. (can't miss what you never had) Lesson learned is that I can get 10 times (or more if bigger quantities are ordered) the amount of unflavored juice for the same price some charge for flavored. I don't have to worry about what unsafe ingredients might be in the liquid. And, I haven't had to buy a coil yet for my tank. Cheap, cheap, cheap.

So, that's how I got started with only 60.00 and I got everything I need to vape for a good while. I only use around 3ml a day so my juice should last at least 3 months. I do realize that flavors are what keep many from going back to cigarettes and most flavors aren't known to have the ingredients that may cause harm so that's probably what you will want. As for me, I'm happy with what I have now and am saving for a subtank and some wonderful flavor to use in it for a treat at times. A friend of my son is addicted to Churro flavor... loves it so that may be the first flavor I try (or Root beer, lol). Good luck with everything and remember that every cigarette you don't smoke is what matters, not those you do.

Another +1 for the iStick 30W/Nautilus Mini combo--I've had more success with that combo than anything else. Even though I now have a Subtank Mini and I am building my own coils, searching for a more powerful sweet spot, I just keep coming back to the iStick 30W/Nautilus Mini for my daily needs.

1. Does my sense of smell and taste come back after i completely quit smoking after a month while still vaping?
2. Does this still effect yellowness of teath?
3. The aspire Nautilus has 5ML tank, how much is that in terms of smoking like.. Like one tank a day would be a pack or so? How often and how many draws do you do on average.
1. This varies from person to person, but yes the sense of smell and taste returns once the smoke-damaged taste buds have had time to heal. Your sense of smell is very important to your sense of taste, so try to make a point of exhaling some of your vapor out through your nose to better enjoy your flavors.

2. To my best knowledge, vaping does not stain teeth like tobacco/smoke does.

3. The majority of vapers consume 3 - 5 ml of juice a day. So that's approximately a tankful of your Nautilus. If you smoked a pack per day, that might convert to a tankful of juice a day for you.

I vape as frequently as I feel the need to. Generally 3 - 5 puffs per vape session satisfies me. This is opposed to smoking a cigarette, where I felt committed to finish the whole cigarette even though I might not physically need to.

I also would recommend an iStick 40w and reluctantly, a Nautilius Mini.

I'm only recommending the Nautilus because it seems everyone on this forum likes them. I've never had one myself, but a couple of my friends had a regular size nautilus, and they both complained that it leaked too much. I also reluctantly recommend the Nautilus because the coils are very difficult to rebuild for a beginner, and that would be the next step in your progression. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

You can get an Istick 40w and a Nautilus mini for from Rocky Mountain Vapor for $49.50 shipped at Rocky Mountain Vapor.

Unless you're looking to blow clouds, I'd avoid the sub-ohm tanks for now.

It is difficult to give an advice when there is so much to choose and so much depends on personal preferences. I can only say that if I would start vaping today I'd better get iStick 30W/Nautilus Mini. Some people like Subox, but for me it gives to much (way to much) of vapor. I do not like subohming. But in case you'll find later you want to try to subohm, iStick 30 is capable to do it. It has a built-in battery (good for a year or two), so it is a disposable device, but rapid progress in vaping makes about everything rather disposable. And you need a spare - in case you main device goes bad. Better have a spare than to go back to cigarettes. Cheap iStick will nicely serve as a spare when you'll know better what stile of vaping you prefer. Main thing - please, start vaping ASAP.

The guys and gals here are the best. Vaping really is an excellent tool to quit analogs, and if one wants to quit and is willing to believe and try, it does the job well. There are a lot of options and combos out there, and sometimes one can get overwhelmed. But luckily there's a lot of us here so chances are someone has an answer to any question. I bless the day I found this site. I was also a lost noob and they did an incredible job guiding me and helping me stay off the analogs. Thanks ecf community. And welcome to the forum and congrats on beginning your vaping journey.

I'd vote for the Nautilus, or Nautilus mini at a minimum. You want enough vapor to blow away those cravings. Or maybe even a Subox kit, and 4 Samsung 25R 18650 batteries from illumn.com at $5 each (buy pairs and get a free safe battery case-never put those Li batteries naked in your pocket!). You want enough firepower that you never run out. The key is plenty of backup. Either double up on the initial hardware or wait a week or two to make sure you like your first choice. Once you get serious about quitting you don't want to be buying smokes at a gas station when your one mod goes south or buying cigalikes or paying double at some local B&M if you bought your gear online.

For juice, I would buy a bottle of 24mg and a bottle of the same juice at 0mg. And a spare bottle or 2. Then you can mix your way to the vape you want instead of running out buying different mg juice every time you want to adjust the nic dosage. If you mix that 50/50 you get 12mg. If you mix 3 parts 24mg with 1 part 0mg you get 18mg. Mix 2:1 you get 16mg.
