So when the new tank, wick, wire, carto or ? arrives...

Do you just unbox it and go or do you clean it?
If so how?

One might wonder about the left-over "stuff" from the manufacturing process.
Granted that was never a thought with the analogs from BT. Just unrap and light it.
- now we have manufactured items from foreign countries.
We kicked the chemicals resulting from the burning process.

Is there a concern over manufacturing residuals/toxins?

I get way to excited when i receive things in the mail to clean them. Cleaning the items you mention about could take as long as 2-3mins and i just do not have the patients to do that. I rip open the box and go at it.

I once got a Bottom Coil x10 tank from fastech that smelled a little funny. I thought "BE A MAN AND VAPE IT RIGHT NOW". So i did. The coil/ tank had a faint plastic/rubber taste that was pretty bad. Not a good vape at all. I still vaped the whole tank and refilled and the plastic taste faded away.

Always with tanks and bases and whatnot, never with batteries.

My doctor recommended cleaning the tip of my tank after every session, so I try to remember to at least wipe it off. Per her, it's a great location for a bacterial plaque to grow even considering PG's antibacterial properties. Plus I clean inside and out thoroughly after every tank.

I put everything into a small jar, fill it with bottled water, and agitate for several minutes. (swirl it in a circular motion) Then I let it sit for 10-20 minutes, pull everything out and let it air-dry on a towel by the space heater.

Squeaky clean, everytime. Back when I used tanks I would sometimes use vodka in place of water, especially if I wanted to clean a strong flavor out.

Clearos get a gentle dry burn. No rinse.
Nothing for cartos.
New RBA/RDA's get taken apart and washed with soap and water.
Wire and SS mesh get torched slowly (not in the hot part of the flame) just to barely red once.
Nothing for silica wick.
PVs get looked at and have never needed anything other than grease for mechanical electrical connections.

I will wash any form of "topper". In regard to wick - I only use organic, unbleached cotton. Any impurities in the kanthal I use will be burnt off will pulse firing the coil prior to wicking it.

Personally, I think it is good practise to clean new equipment because you don't really know what could be on it.

I didn't used to until I got a Kanger Protank 2 with a piece of cutting from the threading process in the tank when I opened it. After that I figured that if that could go through un-noticed that cleanliness probably wasn't high on the list of their priorities. I now take a couple minutes and disassemble and wash any new tanks i get. May be unneeded but I feel better about it.
