I've given it no thought, and really, the question is meaningless to me. I am a nicotine addict, and I have found a better, healthier, more enjoyable way to maintain than smoking. Off tobacco? Irrelevant.
...although, I think when most people say "off tobacco," they mean "not smoking." In that view, I am off tobacco and am certainly an ex-smoker.
I think using the phrase "addicted to nicotine" is wholly inaccurate and misleading.
Let me first answer the posed question; I am not using tobacco products IE cigarettes so I am smoke free.
However I cannot consider myself to be "addicted" to nicotine either.
Being addicted to any drug carries with it a supposition that you are using "a drug" {or gambling}
to excess along with the self destructive behaviors that normally go along with said addictions.
I absolutely don't find my using nicotine or caffeine for that matter on a mostly daily basis to incorporate any of the self destructive behaviors, compulsions ,the physical decline or the physical effects that an addiction typically brings to an individual. That was not the case when I used drugs twenty years ago so I reject this whole notion.
No way, no how!
