(Not letting the wife chime in, as OP was directed to my gender) No! Of course not! They are just expensive enough!

I purchase mainly asian clones - typically of asian products. I do spend on batteries, with a preference for brands beginning with "S". If I was not handy, I would definitely consider purchasing some of the fine American-crafted digital mods built around the dna line - but I am, so that would feel like paying someone to take a vacation for me. There is no reasonable way to avoid researching your ecig vaporizer purchases. Paying a premium price does not guarantee quality - but if you are not handy, premium price + due diligence can put a quality piece of equipment in your hands. I need reliable performance, because I have a monkey on my back.

WAY WAY WAY overpriced.

A Ecig mod is one of the most basic mechanically controlled electric circuits you can find. It's 1800's technology. It's something your average plumber could build in an hour or so. A real machinist could hand make one that rivaled any you could buy in a couple of hours.

Basically, these are all just flashlights. They all work on the same basic principal. Metal tube, caps on each end, a socket you screw the coil/filament into, and a button to turn it on. There's nothing special here. Nothing complex. No reason why it should cost hundreds of dollars.

Now, if it was then hand engraved to a level of something like this:

That may be worth the money, but most of these mods are laser etched from a pattern, not hand engraved.

you mean something like this??

That's like asking if the price of gas is to expensive. Frak, remember when they never thought it would break $1 a gallon. lmao.

Think mods are well worth the price paid, rba's too. Heck, have spent almost as much on rba's that I have on mods. The Authentic Vape gear I own is well worth the price I paid. Mainly because it is quality and WORKS. The good clones I bought are ok, good way to check something out, the crap clones basically collect dust.

In another month I'll be smoke free for a year. The money I haven't spent on smokes has easily paid what I have invested in Vape Gear. And I enjoy a high quality vape that surpasses what any burning bush could possibly supply, with out killing me.

So am thinking the OP was asking a redundant question.

The only mods that I have come across that I could stomach even considering paying more for,(but not full retail), would be anything with a great VV/VW/Display. And special novelty mods like the DNA20, steampunk, Innokin iTasten134/Cool Fire 2, AR Mod, V3Tronix products. These are rather collectible, but still 300 bucks for a tube that looks like a flashlight hits hard...like my first time trying a high nic juice...It has been a while since I've been around equipment and machines, but the price of one mod pays for a -insert size here- block of -insert type of metal here- and this one block can be used to make multiple mods.... but if little ol' -insert name of clone manufacturer- can recreate an almost identical device and make it readily available for, from what I've seen, up to $50 it makes you wonder..... Not to say it's right, but ummm yea...

From an economics point of view, yes, widgets are worth whatever people are willing to pay for them.

But from a practical approach, where in the hell are the $5 plastic 18650 and 18350 sized battery changeable, practically disposable mech mods? It's hard for me to believe that somebody hasn't commissioned a plastic injection molder to start cranking out ultracheapos.

Addendum:
Most of the vapers I know personally have been doing it longer than I, but never went beyond eGo sticks and Kanger tanks. I think the people on this forum, myself included, are interested in vaping to a degree that just isn't the same as the casual vaper. Many here balk at the thought of using cigalikes, or 650mah eGo's, or any of the other things that may be working for some people, just not for them. The cigalikes didn't cut it for me 2 years ago. When I personally took a long, hard look in the mirror and decided it was a time to quit tobacco for good, I set my standards high and bought VV/VW mods and glass BDC's.

Whatever works for you to kick a deadly addiction, do it.

I guess it depends on how deep your pockets go. I recently bought a SMOKtech Magneto and IGO W3 RDA. The whole setup costed me about $90 after everything was said and done. Granted I already had the batteries on hand. Probably would have spent more like $110-$120 if i would have bought a battery with the Mod. For me that was a decent price to pay but it still hurt my wallet.

Price doesn't bother me as much.

Now, mod happy elitists ......? Oh hell yeah.

These are the people who turn down any knock off mod or device simply because it's not brand name or authentic. If an e-cig helps you stay away from analogs, why does it matter who made it? People eat generic food brands all the time because they don't want to spend the extra few bucks for something with a popular name on it.

Definetly worth the money, I'm a machinist and my family owns a machine shop/manufacturing business and while I can machine a top notch high quality mod that would put a Chinese clone to shame, the time put in to one is far greater than the price of most of these mods on the market. Take any mechanical mod into a machine shop and ask how much it would cost to make one and I think you'll have your answer fairly quick. The mass production and low labor rates of china are just about impossible to compete with on a $ scale. Sure it might take $25 to make but us Americans don't really like working for free ;)

Edit: box mods are kind of a different story, for example the Hana Modz. Very nice device but fairly cheap to make. Little over priced IMHO probably why china jumped on cloning it already, there's a huge market for it.
