I've had chargers in a wooden charger box (designed and purchased just for that) for years with the plug sitting in each cell phone's compartment. The chargers stay cool when not in use, indicating that minimal amperage is being drawn. I should probably put that box on a switched outlet or 6 outlet strip that I could turn off, but haven't.

My ecig chargers generally are plugged and unplugged when needed simply because it is convenient to do so. I don't recognize a risk associated with cube chargers because almost everything uses one these days and no one unplugs them when not in use. You phone has one as well as printers, electronic devices, and now ecigs. IF they were causing house fires, we would hear about it frequently on the news. What we do hear about is space heaters.

I would like to see that as well. Is it for sale somewhere?

Well, I always unplug them after charging. I know they don't use much electricty just sitting there plugged in, but like any other electronic/electrical device, I figure it might last longer that way. LOL, I tend to keep things way too long. My newest vehicle is 7 years old. My PC is 8 years old. I have a 17 year old weed whacker that still works. Got a shot gun that I bought in 1965. Got 5 packs of cigs in the freezer that I've kept since July 22nd when I quit smoking and I've had my wife for 42 years.

I don't know if it helps prolong te life or not but it seemed to make sense to me to unplug it while no charging (using USB charger.) I sort of figure it's like cell car chargers...you're supposed to unplug those when not in use...they can cause fire. I was thinking mostly of trying to lengthen the life of my charger.

What I'd like is some more information about the number of cycles.

I know that most batteries have a life of 300 cycles. I also know that it's preferable to recharge partially used batts, rather than let them discharge completely. (Although I've read it's good to let a batt completely discharge once a month or so).

What I don't know is what counts as a cycle? A full recharge? A partial recharge? A bit of both?

I've kept a stock 510 wall charger plugged into my car lighter socket (via a 12-volt -> mini plug wire) constantly for six or so months, nearly always with a battery in it. No problem. Likewise my multi-charger, always plugged in at home. Maclean, I haven't been at it long enough to know about the cycle numbers, especially since I rotate them out so it's less than a cycle a day for mine. I have had, I think, two batteries die (i.e., refuse to take a charge) well before 300, but still have original batteries from first of the year.
