I started vaping using cartomizers - initially with cigalikes and then in tanks. I moved to rebuildables to get a better vape and to avoid repeatedly buying disposables. I now use RBAs exclusively and I love them. When I need to build a coil I get out all of my gear and crank out about ten at a time and store them for future use. I make three different kind of coils using different gauge Kanthal (28awg and 30awg) with different diameters for different atomizers. I don't experiment, I haven't tried twisted wire, and don't enjoy rebuilding for rebuilding sake. Once I get a coil set up I'll leave it in for months at a time, just dry burning and re-wicking with cotton pretty regularly to keep everything clean and tasty.

When I started coiling I used a mini screwdriver, then a 2 mm drill bit ,went on to try a M3 bolt then tried a Mandral, after that I bought GREGSTERS coiling Buddy, next came the Creative coiling gizmo, all of which I used a blow torch to squeeze the coils together. Finally discovered the new wave of coilers and have settled on the KURO Coiler. This Vaping lark is a cash cow, but I love it.

Hey laborer :)

Yup, I rebuild my own coils for my Kanger ProTank 2s as well as for my Kanger Subtank OCC heads. I have a couple of rebuildables (kayfun clones and Atomic RDAs). I found a YouTube video about a week or so ago where a guy took a pen with a pocket clip and twisted his own wire. I tried it with some 30g and loaded it onto my Atomic - super easy. Of course, I can't find the link, but the premise is to take about 12" wire and twist the cut ends. Slip the pocket clip onto the other end. Hold the twisted ends with a pair of pliers. Then roll the pen on your thigh (or some other stable surface) until you get the twist density you like. This somewhat mimics 28g for me - I have a big roll of 30 that I use for my PT2 heads, and now I don't have to go buy a separate roll of 28 any time soon :)

ETA: Sorry for the babble - I misread your statement about building twisted more as a question rather than you already know how

I've been wrapping coils for about a year. Started with the 2.4 mm shaft of a small screw driver but switched to a coil-master when they came out. I figure that after the first couple of months the thing paid for itself in wire $$$ savings, plus, I can get perfectly balanced dual coils that heat evenly. I think it's fun, it saves me money, and it allows me to put together builds which are ideally suited to any given juice.

I've been building my own for a few months now. I was quite content with my nautilus and the bvc coils. I would occasionally forget to order more coils and would have to stop by the local shops to pick one up to get me by. I never stopped at the same shop because the prices were so ridiculous I thought there must be somebody out there that won't screw me. I was wrong. One day I was in a terrible mood. Asked the shop owner if he would cut me a break on a new coil with the purchase of 30 mil juice. He said no. I flipped my lid and have been wrapping ever since.

I do and the first one I built wouldn't work. I found out later the atty didn't have a firing pin LOL (long story). I use 28 gauge kanthal and just started using japanese cotton a few weeks ago. WOW, I wish I had used this cotton a long time ago, It's great. I don;t really know if there are different brands of cotton. I just picked up a pack on my last Mt. Baker order, the bag says KOGA. I haven't been building coils long, maybe a few months now. I can see how intimidating it could be to some, but as others have said there are a lot of youtube videos out there. The only coils I have built so far are micro-coils :)
