Do you miss the old habits you had with smoking?

So when I was smoking I used to go outside and smoke. I have a set of 3 year old twin boys and a 5 year old daughter. Pretty much the only time when they were awake that I could get a little peace and quiet. I guess I need to set up a spot outside so I can just go out and enjoy the outdoors by myself. It just feels kind of dumb to go outside in 20 degree weather for no reason. Anybody else miss the old habits that went with your smoking?

I still smoke cigarettes, cutting down thanks to my PV, and I have a "ritual," or usually do, and smoke one every morning, sometimes having a cup of coffee with that cigarette. I also really enjoy talking to people while I smoke. Nothing that I'll stop with vaping, just something that feels like "smoking activity" to me ever since I started. I feel as though I'll still do it once I'm strictly vaping, but it may not feel the same. I'm not sure if I'll miss it. I know having a morning vape is always nice, however.

I too miss going outside as much as I used too. Now I vape anywhere I want in the house and no one cares. My wife says I've evolved. I no longer stink from smoking and I'm no longer throwing my feces when I get angry. Now I just share my feelings.

One of the funniest comments I've seen on here. But yeah I really miss the going outside. That's where I tended to get introspective. Any other place and there is just too much confusion. OK I have a confession. I would go out back and find a tree to water enjoy my smoke and think but it really feels stupid to just go outside to pee on a tree. Sorry if that's too much info but it's true. LOL I know I am redneck through and through.

I also miss my Zippo. I still have it, it just is not something I worry about getting into my pocket. I used to just open and close it repeatedly to hear that distinctive click. Yeah, I'm THAT guy.

My Zippo is sitting in the top right-hand drawer of the china cabinet. I kinda miss the smell of lighter fluid, but definitely not the smell of a burning cigarette.

As to habits, not really. My late wife was a smoker, so we both smoked indoors, and since it was just me in the house after she passed away, I really had no reason to change. Although I'm pretty sure the animals are glad that I don't smoke anymore.

When I went outside to smoke when visiting a non-smoking household, it seems I was always in a hurry to finish up and get back inside. That I definitely don't miss, lol.

I used to think of the back deck as my smoking room and I still visit, but not as often. Hmm, 20 degrees F is what we had last week up here in the great white north for a couple of days. There wasn't any blowing snow so it wasn't much fun, but that will change soon :thumb:

Having a spot outside in the weather does it for me. A bit of shelter from the wind and a roof makes it much better. Love the rain, wind, lightening, cold and the snow. Bring it on

Sorry for your loss K_Tech!

I used to really like the scent of my Zippo. Still have it. Our daughter gave it to me. Thought about selling it a couple of times, but haven't done it yet. Might just turn it into a PV one day.

Zippo for me too. I have it around, somewhere, but I think I liked my lighter more than I liked cigarettes in some ways.

And grilling.

Pretty much the only time I actually miss smoking is the ritual of cleaning and lighting the pit, opening a cold brew and smoking a cig while the wood gets going. It was my time, standing there in all weathers, poking, prodding, worrying and blowing on the wood - that and smoking.

Now I get my vape on, but it still feels a little weird and I still find myself patting my pockets for my lighter and cigs when I light the kindling.

Hahaha yeah I loved flicking it open and close, I even learned some cool ways to get it open and lit I was THAT guy but it was fun, sadly I lost my zippo before vaping, but it was black and had a picture of galaxies and stars on it, loved that thing. Also one thing that was a benefit of having to go outside is I always knew what the weather was like as soon as I woke up, I work late and have some insomnia so 9-11am is "early" for me. but knowing how the weather is sure as hell doesn't beat waking up, rolling over and vaping in bed for 10mins before I actually get up, and I sure don't miss always being covered in the smell, really weird to be able to tell if someone smokes just by them walking by you, could never smell it before

You know - there is nothing I miss about smoking. That always was a dilemma quitting with conventional NRT though. All that ritual - even flicking your Bic - was supposed to be replaced with slapping a piece of duct tape on your arm. Didn't really work, did it? No wonder some places couched the issue with the words "mourning" things you would miss about smoking.

I know some people feel compelled to follow the old habits. To each his own, but I really don't get the idea that you have to force yourself into those same restrictions you had to adhere to when smoking. Why go outside for a vape in 20 degree weather? If you are proving a point it becomes lost on me. That also speaks to the general issue that I don't want vaping to try to be like smoking. The last thing I want out of vaping is to mimic a smoking experience when it comes to either form (has to look or feel like a cigarette) or function (have to be punished for vaping the same way we are punished for smoking.)

When I started I thought - for about a week - that I had to "mourn" my loss of smoking. Didn't happen. The ash trays never got thrown out. They just got cleaned for the last time and are now collecting dust. Same with the pile of Zippo's, butanes and Bic's I had built up. The Zippos long dried out and the disposables aren't even practical for lighting candles. Don't miss a thing.

Well there's one thing I sure don't miss! I love outside and weather. I never loved outside and weather and smoking. Ahhh - the smell of singed hair getting blown over your lit cigarette. The occasional flying ash - burning a hole in your jacket. Trying to keep a lit cigarette dry in the rain. Trying to light a cigarette at all - on a day when 20 mph wind gusts just won't stop coming.

Seriously - somebody gimme one habit you really miss about smoking.

FUnny you should mention knowing what the weather is. Last night the hubby said to me "Honey you messed me up. I always used to know how to dress in the morning by the blast of cold/hot air that hit the living room when you went out for your morning smoke."

You know, you can get one of those insert thingees to turn it into an 808 carto PV. (Not kidding.) Vapage sells it complete with the Zippo case. (I think they call it the e-Ciggo or something.) Other places have/had the insert with charger available for retro fits.

I can't think of a single thing I miss about smoking.
I certainly don't miss having to go out in the cold to have a cig. nor do I miss cleaning out ashtrays (that stink would make me now want to puke I reckon).
Nope, the more I think about it, changing to vaping was the best move I've made in a long time. :)
