Do you really clean an atty with hot water?

I'm using my own made up method and my attys are at 100% after 3 weeks. I don't know how long they will stay perfect tho:)

I'm squirting a mix of 1/3 vinegar and 2/3 distilled water through my attys every evening before I got to bed. I use a pipette and just squirt it through them 5 times or so and blow them out.

I'm doing it every night because I use 100% VG and it's thick. Plus, I use a ton of flavorings in my juices and they are sweet ones.

So far, so good!

i let mine sit in water with denture cleaner, you know, the fizzy stuff. Then, after a rinse, and blowing it out, i let it air dry till i am ready to use it. I let ir air dry over night, at least. Seems to work fine for me.

Been using one atty for 4 weeks.

Though, now that i have more atty's i think ill just clean em this way in bulk. (saves oney on the cleaner used.)

There was a post somewhere for you water fan-boys/girls about someone putting warm water in a bottle. They had a hole in the plastic cap for the atty's threaded connector. They screwed the atty into the cap so the cart side was inside the bottle, the threaded side pointed out the hole in the cap. Squeeze the bottle. High-pressure warm water wash.

Just FYI. Not my idea, but I know there was a post about it somewhere.

I'll stick with the ISO for cleaning atties and just drink the water. Good luck!

I've ordered ISO alcohol. I did some research before I placed the order. Basically its not too toxic (some residual won't harm you, but obviously don't take a sip of it!) , and evaporates quickly.
The idea of using ISO alcohol makes perfect sense, its designed to clean electronic equipment, after all this is what an atty is.

Water would not have been my first choice for cleaning an atty, but I read a lot of posts of ECF about how well it works. I also have a friend who has had no issues cleaning with water. Anyways, in my last experience, it completely ruined my atty. Maybe I used it too soon after the clean without giving the water enough time to evaporate.

Anyways, cleaning atties is a highly controversial subject. Some people say dry burn on stock voltage, others say use high voltage, some people swear by water, others steam. I'm just a bit ...... I've ruined my atties using water, but I guess you learn.

I've been vaping it now for around 12 hours, its also had an overnight rest, surely that water should be gone by now?

I think it should all be gone with that sort of usage. But I can think of no obvious reason why water alone would decrease the performance of your atty drastically. You were unlucky I guess.

I don't use the method now (now only use dry burns when necessary) but the few I did boil up they would perform poorly with thin vapour with a "steam" like quality until all the water held in the wick had gone. Once they had dried out they would perform pretty much the same as they did before the cleaning. The method never really revived a poor atomiser as far as I can remember.

Yeah, I made a post and video like that, but mine was with a 20mL syringe and a cut off carto condom to attach them together. That was my 1st week vaping (a while ago). After not even a week of that I gave up water after noticing a weird orange/rustic look when I de-bridged my atty all over the coil. There are tons of threads about the high pressure wash, as well as steam cleaning or espresso machine steam.

like breaktru says. to each is his/her own. but for me I'll stick with my iso... so I agree with ya there. I haven't noticed any odd discoloration or residue on my atties since.

My thought on this is "Don't clean with any thing you won't drink/vape."

Vinegar sounds ok but I won't touch ISO, I use PGA/Everclear.

If you worked at Black Mesa you would know that ISO evaporates away, is easily eliminated, and is basically harmless unless you drink a bunch. :)

OTOH your general precaution is wise, and I wish Everclear was easy to find for this purpose, but ISO will do for me. Probably better to keep Everclear away from the ..... kids anyway (they OD on it and stuff). (boy.....am I probably going to catch crap for that one). Anyway... If I had a bottle of Everclear in front of me, or a bottle of ISO Alcohol, I'd use the Everclear. But.. not easy to find, nor inexpensive. So it's ISO.

So, I made a noob mistake the other night when trying to clean my atty per the method I found on the New Member video link - soaking in Isopropyl for 5 mins and then drying overnight. Well, I forgot about the atty after I dropped it in the Iso, and let it sit for more like 20 mins. Der. So, I took it out, and the paint on the outside and inside of the atty was all bubbled up, and the second I touched it, the paint started coming off. (It may not actually be paint - maybe coating is a better word). Anywho, the little pieces of coating were all over the inside and outside of the atty, so I pitched it. Lesson learned! lol

I've been using my current atomizer exclusively for just over seven months now.

I blow it out at least once per day.
And I do hot water rinse/dry burns as needed, which is usually once every week or two.

+1 I am with you DC2.

I have hard water and no problems. I do let the atty cool after a dry burn (about 2 -3 mins) prior to priming with 4 Drops.
