Do you think juice vendors use higher percentages of flavoring?

Hi DIY'ers!

Still continuing my foray into DIY juice.

I have seen posts where people don't recommend going over 20% or so total flavorings. I've been mostly keeping to that rule unless following a recipe. Even when doing so, it seems that nothing I'm making really "pops." For instance now I'm trying to duplicate Vape Addict's "California Blues," a blueberry cheesecake, and used:

15% TFA Cheesecake
2% Blueberry Extra
5% Cream Cheese Icing

The cheesecake smell is there, but when dripped after a couple of hours in the UC it's still not CHEESECAKE like the California Blues is. It's close, but all the flavor is on the surface (I'm still steeping it though). I haven't added any sweetener because I am afraid of changing the flavor away from cheesecake and more toward candy.

A lot of the juice I buy is really, really flavorful. Do you think they use a higher total percentage?

Sticking to an arbitrary rule you read on the internet is never a good idea.

There is no "min" nor "max" flavoring level that can be applied to such a broad category as all juice.

That's just as crazy a notion to me as the new mixers that start off mixing all their experiments at X%.

Some vendors use minimal flavoring while others load it up depending on the desired taste. It depends on how the base is mixed and so many other variables. There are vapers who hate super strong flavoring and others who crave it so strong it kills their taste buds. Just like some people like a little black pepper on meals and others want extra super hot.

If you want a stronger Cheesecake I would recommend using LA instead of TFA.

Cool thanks, I'll add it to my list of stuff to try (I JUST finished my bottle of California Blues tonight, too). I have Cheesecake Graham Crust coming from TFA, but that might not be what I need either and if not I'll try the Lorann. :)

NO! We do NOT think that at all.

We agree with Hoosier:

And we'd add:

- if you want your flavors to "pop", then try adding some .9% sterile saline solution (we dilute our VG with 9% saline solution and 9% distilled water)
but when dripped after a couple of hours in the UC it's still not CHEESECAKE like the California Blues is. It's close, but all the flavor is on the surface (I'm still steeping it though). - most all "cheesecakes" need to steep (at least) several days, with or without the UC before 'coming into their own'
- sweetener/sucralose only makes things sweeter (and tends to gunk up coils) - it doesn't change the overall nature/balance of the flavors
- that much Cream Cheese Icing would make it far too sweet for us - and it might be what is burying your cheesecake
- far & away the best "blueberry" we've found is FA's Bilberry...especially if you need it to "hold it's flavor" against the creams

Good luck!

Got some there last week but it's always out when i need to order

You can order direct from LorAnn. The cost is pretty much the same on the 1oz bottles (comparing to ECigExpress). Not sure how much the shipping is direct, but I can't imagine it's much more if it's not the same or less.

(Edit: click the link below - direct link to their Cheesecake flavor - not sure why it's showing that message as the title of the page).

I'm not a fan of the FA Bilberry. It tastes like a mix of gym sock and spoiled milk. The best blueberry I've found (and I think I've tried them all), is Azure blueberry. Strong, tart and realistic.

To the OP, a lot of it is trial and error so I would make several bottles of the mix using different percentages (keep detailed notes) and see which one comes out closer to the flavor your looking for. Seeing that you used 15% cheesecake reminds me of when I first started trying to make a cookie tasting vape I used a high % of the cookie flavoring but found that lowering it to around 5-7% helped it taste more like cookie. About the vendor juices, I think the amount of flavoring varies so much its hard to say. I've heard about a certain vendor juice that uses around 50% flavoring, sounds crazy ha. There's also things like sweetener, AP, EM, apple cider vinegar, distilled water etc that might be used by vendors too in specific juices. Sometimes you get lucky with a juice the first time you make it and other (most) times it takes a lot of tries with a lot of different variables to get it right. Sorry I couldn't be more help, I hope you find the flavor combo your after! :)

If it would be that easy (sigh)...

Lumping cheesecake and blueberry flavouring together does not necessarily make a blueberry cheesecake.

Depending on how the two base flavours have been created, adding them together could result in some flavour notes cancelling each other out, enhancing one or the other or both, or the whole blend might go in a complete different direction...

Between 'quantum satis' and 'yuck' lies sometimes only a tiny droplet.

Small wonder that talented perfumers/flavourists make big $$$ and successful perfumes/flavours are carefully guarded trade secrets...

Funny you should say that, one of my oldest friends owns a perfume company (BPAL) and she and her husband do very well. And their house smells AMAZING.
