Canada, brrrr
I went to the doctor today to have my hemorr... skip that part! :D

I decided to use my 401 - filled with Johnson Creek Arctic Mint - in his office while I was waiting. I didn't dare use it in reception, because I didn't want to get involved in any confrontations. His office is quite small, so I wanted to see if he'd notice any odour when he opened the door. He didn't, even after I told him that I had been using it.

He had never heard of e-cigs, so I showed him the atomizer and explained how the technology works. He was very open about it. I puffed it in front of him, and he was surprised by the vapor but said that he couldn't smell anything from it - only when I removed the cart could he smell the juice.

He agreed that PG is generally considered safe, and he even mentioned that nicotine, besides the addiction factor, is not the evil drug that it's made out to be compared to all the dangers from carcinogens in tobacco smoke. I'm only using zero nic, so he was pleased with that.

Since this is still a relatively new product, we agreed that there needs to be further studies to test the health effects, but he agreed with me that it seemed ludicrous for Health Canada to ban nicotine juice by classifying it as a new drug. These devices, just by looking at the ingredients, are obviously far better to use than analogues. Shouldn't the goal be harm reduction?

So, he told me he had absolutely no problem with me enjoying my e-cig at the moment. What a cool doctor.

Next, the dentist.

Another great example of possible support from the medical community....

Banning nicotine containing juice is all about the mighty $$ if goverment is not making money and or killing you off with the approved killer analog cigs they don't give a damn for our well being . Government nowadays is controlled by big pharma and the international bankers . I live in a rapidly growing suburb of Vancouver and they want to shut down our ER at the hospital after allready slashing services like materinty we are becoming subserviant slaves and have to stand up!! passive action is what they want in our dumbed down society .

Same here...

My doctor was very interested in my e-cig. I showed him how it worked, the parts it has, what was in the e-juice, and explained it's function as it produced water vapor. I told him where I've been getting my supplies and the general costs for a first time user.

I actually did a vape demonstration in his office and he was totally fascinated by it. I'm serious... his eyes lit up like a christmas tree and he said, "Cool, you can't even smell it."

He had never heard of such a device and is eager to go learn more about them. He would like to recommend them to his other patients who are having difficulty in quitting smoking. He also commented on the smoking simulation it creates would help a great deal with the mental addiction, as we all know a good portion of it is all in or head, the rest is the drug addiction itself.

He congratulated me on quitting smoking and is very happy I found something that actually works.

[some more detail, skip if it bores you]

I have several medical conditions that most doctors blame on smoking. So, I purposely waited until the fourth visit with this new doctor to tell him I vaped. Every visit he asked me If I smoked, I would say NO, and he would scratch his head... LOL.

This is how it went on that fourth visit...

Doc: Everything is looking good. Blood Pressure is marginal, but acceptable. Blood Sugar is very good. Last lab results show your Trigs are remarkably at healthy levels in such a short time, that's awesome, good job!... but, your heart rate is a bit fast again and you're just sitting in a chair.... ummm, and you don't smoke?

Me: Nope... errr, but I do vape.

Doc: Vape? What the heck is that?

Me: I use a personal vaporizer.

Doc: Personal vaporizer?

Me: Yeah... They're also called electronic cigarettes, or e-cig for short.

Doc: An e-cig? Never heard of it.

[At this point you should've seen the expression on his face. The best way I could describe it would be the "deer in the headlights" look... LOL... I proceed to pull out my 510 and show it to him. As mentioned earlier, I explained all I knew about the device, took it apart and showed him the pieces, told him how it works, what was in the e-juice, and did a demonstration for him.]

Me: The cloud you see is just vapor, not smoke.

Doc: Wow. You can't smell it either. I would've never known you used it unless you told me... So, the nicotine in the vapor satisfies your cravings?

Me: Well, at first I had to get used to it and experiment with different nicotine strengths, but I've got tuned into what works the best for me now. Now it totally satisfies my cravings and I'm so glad I discovered the e-cig, thanks to the internet. I think they're much better than regular smoking.

Doc: Well, yeah. That should be a no brainer there. No tobacco, no tar, no second hand smoke, not to mention all the other chemicals you're not smoking anymore. That is a genius device... And you've been using it anywhere?

Me: Yep. I use it at work in the office, in smoke-free restaurants, shopping centers, in other peoples vehicles... pretty much anywhere at anytime whenever I need a nic fix. I get strange looks from people sometimes.

Doc: [chuckles a bit]... I imagine so since it does look like your smoking. The simulation it creates sort of gives you a secure feeling you're still smoking, right?

Me: Yes. I really like that part too.

Doc: Interesting... I would like to recommend the e-cig to my other patients. Where did you get yours?

[... and blah blah blah from there on out, but CigTechs.com was the distributor I purchased from last. I've been all over the net trying out different hardware and liquids, but there's no need into going into all of that.]

But, when something like that happens it just feels good, you know? You get all warm and fuzzy with accomplishment. I feel like I did a good deed. I'm spreading the word and saving one smoker at a time. Well, with the help of the doc, we might save more!

My doctor asked if i smoked the first time i went to him, and i said i had quit with an e-cig. He knows about them, and said "oh great!, Just remember they are just as addictive as cigarettes." i think the ecstatic Great! was enough said hehe.

LOL

But I can't help but wonder what exactly he was thinking when he said...

"Just remember they are just as addictive as cigarettes." ???

As opposed to what?

As IF Nicotine Replacement Therapies aren't addictive? HA HA HA

Man, I had to switch to e-cigs to quit those blasted highway robbery NRT's!

I know, I know, he would probably argue with something like... "But NRT's are used with a "step-down" program specifically designed to help you quit using nicotine. Also, studies have shown that combining NRT's with stop smoking support groups can significantly improve your chances of quitting the nicotine drug."... blah, blah, blah

As IF we really wanted to do that... HA HA HA

Besides, you can do the same thing with e-cigs, if you wanted to. In fact, it's a little easier considering the juice strength choices available on the market. You can 'step-down' to ZERO and still pretend you're smoking... But I'm not aiming to do that. I just want a cleaner nicotine source.

I've always wanted to say the following to a doctor, but have never mustard-up the nerve to be so blunt and mean...

"Look doc, which part of 'dedicated drug addict' do you not understand? If I really wanted to quit using nicotine, I would have done so years ago while smoking, just simply 'step-down' my cigarette usage gradually into weaker and weaker brands and styles while brainwashing myself as to how much better off I will be with a healthier future. But I didn't do that. Understand? Good. Don't worry, the pharmaceutical companies won't be going out of business anytime soon. As long as we still have pork, beef, shellfish, fast food, junk food, caffeine, air and water pollution, FDA approved growth hormones and MSG in our diets, you'll still have a job. Now .... and renew my HBP medicine while I'm still alive! I've become dependant on that too, thanks to you!"
