Does a mech mod make sense if you don't want to get into RBA's?

The REO it's self is timeless... :) Robert has mentioned upgrading the VV Grand's circuitry at some point in the future.. That will be a VERY happy day for me.. ;) I saw where someone modded one using a dna, and had one small, simple, LED which blinked to show wattage settings.. I liked that VERY much also.. :drool:

If you want to use higher voltage, you can get it two ways; stacking batteries or with a boost circuit on one battery. The result of a boost circuit the battery sees is exactly the same as using lower ohm coils--a lot more current being drawn from them. There's nothing wrong with stacking batteries with a circuit designed for it.

P = V^2/R = I^2 x R

(I = intensity = current, in amps. Many of us old-timers still use E (electromotive force) for voltage instead of V)

You don't have to be a REO fanatic, and defend everything with me.. I personally do not like stacking batteries...I've been vaping REO's since the first Mini came out, and owned many original Woody's, Woodvils, and most others... ;) Clyde may have been the first REOnaught, but, I was the one who started the "battery wars" and helped to change Robert's mind about using cheap Trustfire, UF batteries, and making the AW IMR the recommended battery for the entire REO line up... :) Off-topic, but just a little REO history...

Chill out, boy. I wasn't defending REO or trying to insult you. Running batteries in series is a common practice in many more applications than vaping. I have forty 12-volt batteries in series for a 480 volt UPS.

I don't think this has been mentioned , if you have to ask about neck nods you probably shouldn't be using one .

They have no protection , and a short can lead to problems with the batteries ..... and lithium batteries really can have problems .
Should always be using a fuse , and be familiar with using a multimeter to measure the resistance of atties .

Putting a kick in a mech makes it a non-mech , the only point being flexibility IE use the same mod for regulated/unregulated output (fashionistas need not apply :p).

    Kids :lol:

    Fact is that the Reo has still out sold all other mechanical mods, and for good reasons. Might also note that I won't own a VV Grand for the same reason. Why would I want to stack bats when there is no reason to?!? Besides I have a provari for VV. It's just ironic that my provari is set up to perform just like my mechanical mods. It's not at all uncommon for me to take the same atty that I had been using on my Reo, and stick it on my provari, or my mako, or my zen, or my .......... They can all be set up to provide the vape that I want. I have a reo so that I can drip & drive safely.

    The bottom line tho' is that mechanicals have always been a viable option, and they existed long before RBA's. Just remember that YOU are the safety ckt with a mechanical ... they won't do those things for you

    as i already wrote in another thread, my oppinion about mods is that only the 18650 ones are worth investing since the batteries will last you longer. i don't care about displays, vv / vw and stuff and if i get a mod, it'll be a mech, but then again i vape with a 1300 mah "fatty" ego bqttery now that keeps a high voltage for a full day and is as long as a standard 900mah so in terms of size andweight it wins over any tech mod. if my shop stops selling the 1300mah fatties, i might consider a mech but i don't see the reason for carrying such a big thing in my pocket when i get a full day of intense vaping from my ego.. a battery costs 15 bucks and it's electronically protected so you can as well keep your current ego setup and just get a good battery.

    I completely agree with glycerol, and use his setup as shown in profile pic! It does work well, and I do get great vapes and it is portableish, pocket friendly. So why do I/we feel the need to constantly get more stuff? Why can't I stop looking at the kicked Legacy? Why am I going to buy it ASAP and eventually become an RBA/RDA guy? Is it just the evolution of this habit/hobby? As we know, all hobbies are expensive and I don't think any of us got into vaping to spend more $$ than we were spending on analogs, but I'm dropping $ like crazy trying to find the "perfect" vape. This site and all of the users feedback has been incredible and the information is priceless, but the more I learn, the more I buy. LOL, how did this ramble happen on this thread. O well, evolution, I shall not fight you, onwards and upwards, chasing that dragon once again!

    i personally hate the thought of throwing even more chinese crap in our landfills when they die though.
    with a mech or VV mod you dont have a finite lifecycle of use then toss.
    and with advances in batteries over the last year a mech or vv can last well into 3 days without charging. i think i change the battery in my provari 2 times a week now. and my mechanical are running for a good two days.

    its about more then just a tube. there is a difference in the overall vapor running on pure dc that a lot of vv mods cant simulate. but to answer the OP unless you feel like constantly staying vigilant and looking for lower resistance items a mech really isnt worth it unless using a kick. but many of the nice ones are built tough and sure look pretty.
