As I travel down this vaping path, I'm starting to turn my mind to what flavor of e-juice to get. I don't feel ready to play around with the diy (though I'm looking into that), so concentrating on the already mixed ones. But I'm finding that I keep turning to my kids to decide what flavors to get. While we have to agree on what to smell, they know that I will be the one vaping it. So far, we have agreed to try Cotton Candy, Banana, watermelon, and a possible Rose flavors.

Am I wrong to include them on this choice? All the input they are giving me right now is what they would like to smell in the house (just as long as it's not an analog smell) and then I can determine if that is a flavor I would like to taste as well.

I would actually not get too heavy into the flavored e-juices right now. I know this may seem a little far fetched to you right now, but there are a lot of us experiencing shortness of breath (SOB) lately. A lot of people say that it may be from PG, VG, and withdrawl symptoms of smoking, but a lot of us are narrowing the symptoms to be caused from food flavoring in these e-juices. They are simply not meant to be vaped. There are a few members of this community that have never smoked a day in their lives (chew tobacco and some snus users), that are experiencing SOB. They have been vaping flavored e-juice. I too have SOB for no apparent reason. It usually starts around 2 months of regular use.

If you look at the MSDS of PG and VG, you will notice that it is non-toxic to inhale. We can't examine a lot of the ingredients in food flavorings, because of the "artificial food flavoring" label. Even though we know of a few possible ingredients that could be life threatening in some of the flavorings, for ex: diacetyl (popcorn lung) and acetyl propionyl (diacetyl's replacement). So, in my opinion, I believe the only real safe liquid to vape is unflavored e-juice.

I am only providing this information to warn unsuspecting people of the possible harm that could attribute to many of these flavorings used in our e-juices.

erally?...in 23 days I'll be at a year vaping upwards of 3ml a day....my SOB went away after about a month of being off the analogs....I don't use VG juice either...and stay away from butter flavors or anything that might contain diacetyl... what I'm saying is the warning to stay away from flavors and vape only nonflavored juice sounds alot like fearmongering and hogwashery

I didn't mean it to sound that way. I thought I said in My opinion.. Don't get me wrong at all! I do vape flavored liquids, just the straight flavors like strawberry and vanilla. I don't get heavy into the mixed flavorings anymore. I guess I should of made that a little clear, lol.

In my case, I have been off analogs for 4 months. I have been vaping for just under 2 months. Do you think my SOB could be related to quiting or not? Also, there are a few non-smokers with SOB, using multiple premixed flavorings for ex: RY4.

I think it is a great idea to include your kids in the decision as long as you like what they pick. I mainly pick from what i'd like to smell too... and my kids like it mugh better. I did experience sob briefly... just had to make sure I was actually *breathing* in between vaping and it went away. dunno if it was due to the flavors i was vaping at the time or just, well, not breathing...lol

Bringing your kids into the discussion of this subject is good in my opinion. They are also benefiting from the experience as they see that you are becoming healthier from their added support!

As far as e-juices are concerned, I have to agree with sl_rat that DIY is one of the better options. I personally go to Capella.com for my flavorings and VG juice. They have a section on e-juice DIY! They have 50 flavors made for DIY and they are water soluble :) I would not recommend oil base food flavoring.
