Suspect by Robert Crais - Crime Fiction - "LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well. Nine months ago, a shocking assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty—until he meets his new partner.

Maggie is not doing so well, either. A German shepherd who survived two tours in Afghanistan sniffing explosives before losing her handler, her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s.

They are each other’s last chance. And they’re about to investigate the one case no one wants them to touch: identifying the men who murdered Stephanie. But what they find could ultimately break them both."

Not my usual genre, but it was given to me by someone wanting to share the story with me.

It's a very easy read, only into about 2 chapters so far.

Great thread!

I'm reading"A Christmas Baby" a mystery and actually moves right along. And "Lovers" Judith Krantz. But I read a LOT! I don't do TV and crave escape so I read. I would recommend people read whatever they darn well want to and make no excuses as I was about to do because my books of the moment are not profound, deep, thought stimulating, intellectual or anything super mind blowing. I buy a 10 at a time for 25 cents each usually and read about two out of those, if I'm lucky, more. The Painted House can't remember the author and The True Story of Jesse James- Percy??? Well those are two surprises I can halfway remember the names about. I just don't pay attention to details anymore. I've read books written so well I can't believe it. Ive read story lines so awesome but written horribly I can't believe it. The variety in reading is far much bigger than any movie TV stuff. Oh yeah. Some well intentioned books can put me to sleep or have me throwing them in the discard pile as a piece of drivel. How do some of them get published I want to know. I'll give any author a chance. Sometimes you just have to get beyond their writing style and adapt in order to enjoy the book. Nothing wrong with that. But their was one everybody said you've got read. It was something like Live in the Now. Oh my gawd! What a horribly written book. Oh thing good was the title. Geeze and it says it all compared to the book. Tossed in the reject pile. Why I won't buy new. Anyway. There are some little gems out there and if you don't start it a book or try any book because you " don't know if it's good " or not try the library, check out the limit on any fiction you THINK might be good. Wo cares? Right? And try it. Don't read it if you can't get in to it. My library is small so I buy used books and so ae I always have a good decent book to read if not a page turner keeping up late. It also allows your mind to paint the pictures. I believe that to be good use of grey matter of which we are only using 10 percent of. I used to read research stuff. I was hungry for knowledge. Now I read to escape. It's so peaceful. It keeps me still. However I've gotten stomached aches from books that are high action go go tense? So for it to be peaceful stay away from that. (. :
Oh I remember one you guys. You simply must read this book if you like horses and natural things. It's called "Naked Liberty" It revealed to me how much I live in fear. I never thought I was fearful until I read this book. Society cultural norms really do a number to our heads

I am also reading "John Dies At The End by David Wong" and "Riptide Ultra-Glide by Tim Dorsey" right now. I have ADD so I am usually always reading books 3 at a time, because unless it is a REAL awesome book, it's not gonna keep my focus on it by itself. Getting a Kindle Paperwhite made life ALOT easier for me....because carrying around 3 hardcover books around all the time kinda sucks...lol

I used to read novels. Now I don't have time, because I'm spending all evening reading ECF posts.
It does kind of cut into your time don't it?
I'm a reader too. Mostly of fluff. I get enough non fiction in my real life ! Lol
Currently reading The Girl Who Played With Fire, sequel to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
Did you read the Hunger Game's series? So much better than that crappy movie they made :)

Then there's the kindles  Three of them, one stay's in the bathroom:blush:, one on the kitchen table (yep, I eat & read!) and the other is a Fire for games & such.
And another paper back in the other bathroom:facepalm:

I love to read! I just don't have as much time to do it as I'd like! A good book can keep me up all night until its done. I love Dan Brown for starters. Another one of my favorite authors is Kimberla Lawson Roby! I read a bit of everything but probably more urban fiction than anything.

Dale I've been wanting to read the Hunger Games but movies ruin books for me. It seems like the movies do away with the best parts. Are they good?

I've read some of Dan Brown, never heard of the other?
Well I loved the Hunger Games myself, was kind of surprised to see they were meant for "youth"; but I sucked 'em down like ice-cream!
Gonna read 'em again someday :)

I can vouch for the goodness of Hunger Games. I read the 3 books in 3 days each...REAL good.

Thanks guys! Ill have to put that one back on the list!

For those of you that have tablets & e readers check with your local libraries if you have a library card. There's an app called overdrive that let's you download up to 4 books at a time (ebooks or audiobooks) for 2-3 weeks at a time. I love it! That's how I get most of my books now unless its just something that I have to buy!

Edit: The best part is that you don't have to go to the library to do it! I'd always end up riding around with library books in my car because I forgot to return them.

I used to read a lot. Got out of the habit a couple of years ago, but thinking it's time to pick up a book. I loved reading! (Fiction. As jlcarey said, I live non-fiction. Fiction is where I relax and escape. ;) )

I think Dale Cramer is a top notch story teller. There aren't many authors that can make me literally 'laugh out loud' because he's able to make me see the scene, but he manages quite nicely. My favorites by him are Bad Ground and Summer of Light.

Ted Dekker has some good suspense novels that take all kinds of twists and turns. I really liked his trilogy Black, Red and White. (I think that's the order they go in. )

I've got somewhere around 1000 books on my shelves and just went through and got rid of a couple hundred that I have no interest in reading again. I don't think I'd like a kindle. I like the feel of books and the smell of paper and ink.

I'm a reader too. Mostly of fluff. I get enough non fiction in my real life ! Lol

Someone told me that The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was really good and I should read it. I never got around to looking it up and seeing what it was about. Want to give a book report?
