To be honest Ive had some issues with this myself, not as the one asking questions but as the one trying to give sound advice while someone else chimes in with something that is totally wrong. Trust me some of the arguments that have ensued have been epic.

Like others have said you have to take the time to read through all the advice and look for a consensus. Most of the time you can look at a members join date and post count to get a decent idea of how much they might know but not always.

I know some people who have been here 6 months and have over 3000 posts.Generally these are people that comment on tons of topics and dont always take the time to read them all the way through but again not always. I also know veterans that have been here for 4 years and only have 10 posts under their belt.

I know its frustrating, but thats the thing about vaping. There are SO many variables to consider that unless you and I are using the exact same devices with the exact same delivery system and the exact same juices and relatively close in our quit dates your experience could be TOTALLY different than mine.

That being said I do miss the days when this board was a little more conservative. It almost seems at times that common sense is being skipped over in favor of absolute freedom of speech and trolls are running rampant as a result.

All-in-all I think the mods here do a great job and are extremely fair but Id be lying if I said I wasnt concerned about this place falling to the level of VF if standards are allowed to slip any further.

I'm new here, and have only posted a few questions, but from those I received great advice and comments. I was surprises at how fast the replies came in. The members that replied back to me were very nice in my opinion and really seemed like they wish to help me also. Now, the point about the leaking, I did see what you stated being suggested on a youtube video, and I think this person that took the flavor wicks out was using high VG e-liquid because they were getting the occasional dry hit, and they also stated that it could cause flooding with e-liquid higher in PG. I really don't think anyone here is going to give out intentional false advice. Oh, were are my manners, welcome to the forum!

And if it was left unmoderated ecf would be full to the brim with bad advice. Every thread someone would read would be full of nonsense. A database of nonsense if you like. Not very usefull.

Mike... you seem to have forgotten the main purpose of the forum..... the sharing of experiences, thoughts and opinions. This is an opinion forum, not a fact forum. What works for one may not work for another.
Mods are volunteers. Mods are people... who have their own opinions and experiences. If they were to do as you suggest, then essentially they would be signifying that they thought their opinion was correct and the other posters was not. Which really would then negate the purpose of having a forum for the sharing of one another's advice, opinions, and experiences.
I suppose that if you think a poster is being maliciously deceptive, you could report it. If you feel that your experience differs from another posters then quote it and rebut w/ your own experience or opinion. That is sort of the purpose here.... to share differing opinions and experiences.

This is more complex than it may appear at first.

This forum is ultra-busy, there are 5,000 posts a day right now*, 150,000 a month. 2,500 online at times. One post a second at peak times.

* edit: just been told it's 12,000 posts a day at the moment. Wow.

We have about 20 staff who all put in time when they can, precious time away from their work, life and families.

They just can't cover all the posts, they might only see 5% of them or something. We absolutely rely on members to PM us with anything they see that needs fixing.

Really bad advice gets moved to the Not Advisable forum as a result. But I do agree that a lot of advice given here (as on many forums for that matter) is not A1. How do we fix that? We can't. The main reason is that many vapers are extremely enthusiastic and committed, and if you tell them they are giving bad advice, it doesn't come off well.

ECF can't fix this issue, but members can: if you see something that you know is wrong, then post a better answer yourself. If you can't do that, you are part of the problem, not the solution.

Just be polite please, and add something like: "In my experience the previous advice is incorrect, I find that if you do this, the device will leak badly and operate poorly. Instead, you could try this: xxxx xxxx xxxx. YMMV naturally".

For the last two days the Mods have been dealing with a troll attack by people who want to destroy the forum, and have had to ban 150 multiple spam accounts. This is important work and takes a lot of time to resolve (if you ban a genuine member, then it adds to the problems). So we rely on members to help. If they don't, things don't go as well as they might.

Please ask yourself, "How can I help? How can I be part of the solution, not part of the problem?"

Another thing that members can do is, if they see the same issue coming up again and again, write a tute on how to fix it. Then decide where to post the tute, or ask a Mod's advice. There must be a lot of common problems that get asked about time and time again. If it's something I know about, and know I can help with, that's what I do. Everyone has a different knowledge area though. I don't have a clue about clearos, so I wouldn't know if advice given is good or bad. But if you ask me about APV safety issues, engineering choices, and good/bad design, then OK I'm there. So it needs people who definitely know the score about an issue to write a tute, or to correct advice that is not helpful.

Bottom line: think if you can help somehow. That's what makes the ECF wheels go round. It's why this is the best ecig resource in the world.

Many thanks :)

I have found that if you remove the battery from a box mod, put it in a draw and insert a carrot into the battery slot the draw becomes very light.
I would not recommend this to people but feel that my experience should be put out there. :)

edit by oldsoldier: I should ban you and burn down your internet house of cards for giving bad advice, but I'm laughing too hard.

I have enjoyed watching everyone play with yesterday's troll. It has become apparent that all he does is find new ways to attack ECF but at least this time he has had the opportunity to show his true colors.

Say goodbye to Mike aka Micky Blue Eyes, whistleblower, jenni talia, the observer, the second coming, allow me to retort, your nemesis, and probably some more that I can't think of yet this morning until after some coffee. I would delete this thread -- but hey then the educational value would be lost.
