I've never smoked a cigar or pipe but if your just starting to vape I had a tight chest...urge to cough and a little constant tickle in my throat. I ain't a doctor but all I know is when that stuff happens to past smokers it's only good. Just make sure it doesn't get out of hand a little discomfort is usually your lung fixing them selves... You may also be drying out your lungs...drink the water!!

P.s I'm a mouth to lung inhaler.

Early in my vaping experience someone advised me about these techniques, and the explanations made a lot of sense.

When inhaling vapor, suck into the mouth as if sucking on a milkshake through a straw. Then you can inhale into your lungs. Explanation was that the nicotine in vapor is absorbed differently than in burning tobacco. Most nicotine in vapor is absorbed in the mucus membranes of the mouth, throat, and nasal passages, so the longer the vapor has contact with those, the more absorbtion of the nicotine.

After lung inhalation, exhale slowly through the mouth AND NOSE. Explanation: Much of our sense of taste is contributed also by our sense of smell. That is why when you have a cold, food has less flavor or taste. So, by exhaling thru the nose, we can "taste" more of the juice's flavor.

You can try this with your own juices. Try exhaling both thru your nose and then your mouth only. Chances are you will enjoy more of the flavor if you exhale thru both.

I'm confused... You mean I was smoking wrong all those years? I NEVER inhaled directly into the lungs... I always got a mouthful then inhaled... Guess that is why I didn't have a huge learning curve with vaping... :)

Yeah, I did'nt know some people inhaled directly until after I started vaping, and I smoked for 30 years. That makes me sound old, does'nt it?

When I first got my Ego in, I thought I was supposed to draw directly into my lungs, but that gave a nasty, often harsh taste and hit, so I just went back to doing it just like I smoked cigarettes for 25 years. I draw the vapor into my mouth, then inhale it. But some times you will be vaping a flavor that doesnt have very good throat hit, and may have weak flavor, so you need a larger hit to satisfy you, so then I will fill my mouth, then just partially inhale it into my throat so I can re-fill my mouth with more vapor, then I inhale it all at once. But now I have mixed a juice that usually has a stronger flavor and gives great throat hit most of the time(unless the battery is low), so I usually just fill my mouth one time fairly quickly, then inhale and that usually works well.

But inhaling the vapor stream directly into your lungs will probably be harsh and less desirable.

Been Vaping 4 months+ now 70PG/30VG Juices at about 11.5 watts, sometimes i do a full inhale sometimes half, have not had any issue with it whatsoever, though once I tried 100% VG and it made my throat really sore and it felt like there were ulcers around where i stuck my mouth peice at, so it might be your juice.

Definately pipe style for me. The girly friend says I vape "sensuously". :2cool: I draw a big hit in and french inhale, let some linger in my mouth, draw it back in as it escapes, inhale what's left and let it exhale through my nose slowly. Totally opposite of the way I smoked. Vaping is enjoyment, smoking was just a nasty addiction that I hated every thing about.

Because of the way I vape, throat hit is the last thing I look for in a juice. I'm a flavor ...... :p

with a slow drag then holding in my mouth for a few seconds then inhale through my nose then exhale through the nose the sore throat almost went away. i also changed the atty to a fresh one and hopefully by tommorrow i will be back to my normal self. i had it rough for a few days there , almost thought i would have to stop vaping. just had to get educated, quite being a vape hog and enjoy the experience slowly. before i would double inhale then quickly inhale through the mouth to get the biggest throat hit i could and i found i was actually burning my throat and lungs ...literally

Same here! I guess I vape differently than most people. I draw in with my mouth, while continuing to inhale/exhale through my nose (like reverse circular breathing for you woodwind players), then I sort of inhale, more like a swallow, and exhale a huge plume out of my mouth. I have no idea why I vape this way - it just developed.
