yeah, i'd like to know definitively as well. brand new attys smoke and burn... what's the smoke from? not the primer, that's already blown out, atty cleaned and dried. and what's that taste and smell? when an atty goes dry, where's the taste coming from? it's not juice, that's already burned off.

the ce2s i have dont seem to burn. i dry burn them when i take a new one out of the pack, i watch the coil light up red repeatedly, but the wick doesn't seem to burn at all.

pretty strange.

Hi,
Well from my paltry 2 years of vaping I have come to the conclusion that the burnt taste cames from 2 sources.

1. from the batting material that is in the cartridge, and sometime the plastic cartridge itself. The batting material melts and creates a burnt taste in the vape. I have vaped so much that I actually melted the plastic cart, talk about hot boxing :)

2. The impurities in the juice that do not burn build up as deposits on the coil making it less effective and can produce a burnt taste when the coil is dry and burning hotter.

Well this is MHO and others may chime in that have been vaping longer than me, but those are the two main sources. The burnt wick is nothing more that the build up of impurities that do not burn off. most of the wicking material does not burn and many preburn their wicks to remove any possible manufacture impurities, lending to a cleaner vape.

Hope this helps
Dan

well i'm talking about brand new, cleaned attys with no cartridges, so it doesnt fall in line with your take on it.

mostly, i want to know where the bad taste comes from, when they're brand new, either ce2 or regular 510 attys, cleaned and dried, with nothing in them. either its the wick or its the metal wire itself. i dont know where else the taste could come from.

i can see what you're saying as applicable to used attys though.

Well, in new attys, I would say it is a combination of the new wire conditioning itself and creating its oxidation layer, there is also the impurities/preservitives in the "new" wicking material, and even though it is new and clean there will still be a residue of preservitive on the mesh/metal parts/and ceramic cup that will have to burn off when everything get up to operating temp. Kinda like a new car engine that must be broken in before everything stops smelling :)
Hope that makes sense.
