Hello and welcome to ecf.
PG is the one that gives a throat hit, but it probably won't be the same as if with the nic. vg mellows the hit out and for some(like me) I like it like that....never did like a throat hit personally.
There are members who use zero nic so I am sure someone will be along soon that maybe can help better....
:)

Hello and welcome to ecf.
PG is the one that gives a throat hit, but it probably won't be the same as if with the nic.

This is incorrect. PG offers no TH whatsoever. Put two drops on your atty and take a hit. It's like smoking an unlit cigarette, TH-wise.

On the forums, people often say something to the effect:

PG gives more TH than VG.

When it is worded that way, the implication is that the PG is giving the TH. The accurate way to word it is:

PG doesn't rob TH as much as VG does.

To answer the OP's question... nicotine and warmth of vapor provides TH. Some flavorings provide a type of TH akin to nic, like menthol and cinnamon.

Nicotine IS TH
PG lets it through best, VG dulls it but adds more fullness feeling of vapor
Heat enhances nicotine's hit

Fake TH...

Some flavors have some throat sensation of their own - Menthol. mint, cinnamon, ginger, other spices, some liquor flavors

There are fake TH additives - QHit by Flavourart (a flavoring company), Vapornine has a different one, Totally Wicked has a very very strong capsacin liquid, and FreedomSmokeUSA has (black) Pepper juice and flavoring

I've used Throat Hit Plus, QHIT, additives from vendors...

They all do just make your throat scratchy...it is not the same as nicotine TH.

All of them make me cough...I tried them 6 months ago and then tried them again...no go...

Thanks for confirming what I found. Why some continue to suggest these additives is baffling to me.

No, you don't get TH with zero nicotine. You just taste the flavoring.
Yeah, every time a thread like this comes up I generally follow it out of curiosity. And the results are always the same... No nicotine=little or no throat hit.
Bummer, cuz one day I was hoping to drop down to zero nicotine. But I LIVE for a good TH, not to mention a lot of vapor.
Oh well. Doesn't matter a whole lot anyway....I also had a plan to drop down right away from my 24MG NIC to something a little lower. Trying 12 or even 18MG just didn't cut it for me, so back to the 24MG I went!

But do I care at this point? Nope. I'm just so happy to be off of the stinky sticks for 2 months after so many years of unsucessful attempts, that I may even start using this e-juice stuff to wash my hair and brush my teeth. :D

To the OP, I now vape 0 mg of nicotine and manage to get (in my own personal definition) sufficient and satisfying TH. My personal definition can vary wildly from yours or anyone else's however. What one person would consider a lung searing TH would just be mild to others. There have been a number of polls and discussions about TH over the years and are rather interesting reading. Many factors are mentioned including nicotine level, pH of the liquid, atomizer/carto temperature etc. A quick search will turn up quite a few of these.

For my 0 mg liquids, I tend to use a lot of strong tobacco flavors including Tobacco Absolute mixed with other flavors and a little PGA at times. The tobaccos are mixed at a somewhat stronger level along with other supporting flavors. Might have some bearing on it. Most of these mixes provide a sensation that I can only describe as a mild but noticeable Throat Hit that works for me. I knew I wasn't going to get the massive, hot blast that my old Marlboros provided for 30+ years - As my nic level went down, I had conditioned my expectations away from trying to duplicate the smoking experience to something more easily attainable by vaping. Obviously won't work for everyone. Just throwing this out in answer to your inquiry.

This evening I have just tried adding alcohol (vodka) to my 0% mix....no TH :(

I came across a Harvard study in a friends study about what causes the throat hit in cigarettes - the smoke or the nicotine....and the conclusion was it's the nicotine.

Herbal cigarettes with 0% nicotine, the kind you can buy in health food shops here in UK (i.e. Holland & Barratt) provide no TH and smell horrid!

Thank you to everyone who replied, it has been helpful , I had this discussion on the chatroom and someone mentioned putting 2 or 3 drops of everclear alcohol in there, has anyone else tried this ?

Yes, and again: IT DOESN'T WORK.

People who throw out the "additives" BS for TH, really have no clue what good throat hit truely is.

As I posted in the other thread

Nicotine IS throat hit

You can get some throat sensation with some flavors: menthol. mint, cinnamon, ginger, other seasonings, pepper (FreedomSmokeUSA.com sells a black Pepper eliquid and flavoring), some liquor flavored eliquids

There are throat so-called hit additives that provide some throat sensation or peppery irritation. Flavourart flavorings used to have one called Qhit and you can check for that though I heard they changed the name of it. VaporNine sells some other hit additive. Totally Wicked sells a very very strong capsacin liquid (hot pepper chemical).

Just as high PG juices let nicotine's hit through better, high PG juices will also let the effects of these flavors and additives through better. Heat may enhance the throat sensation of these flavorings and additives (i.e using a fat model or mod with LR atomizer or cartomizer.

And this information is just as misleading as it was in the other thread.
