Dollar Tree also has the perfect containers for mixing small batches of DIY liquids with a focus on testing and tweaking.

I got sick of using those little dosing/mixing cups like the kind that come on the top of NyQuil bottles.

They work, but they are wide and have a tendency to blow around or otherwise tip and roll around somehow.

They have super wide rims, which is good if you need target practice with your pipete, but the liquid is unshielded and can get dusty. I don't have any pets, but cat people, I am talking to YOU, here!

SOLUTION?

Head on down to Dollar Tree and pick up one of those 14-compartment pill containers; one for AM and PM respectively, each day of the week.

It is the perfect solution for my issue. Each compartment will probably hold over 10ml, but 1ml barely covers the floor. PG does not stick in any way to the surface. The compartments open individually and snap securely closed. It will not just up and start rolling around the table like the dosing cups. Unlike 14 shot glasses, it is by contrast super light-weight and also a single unit able to be carried in one hand.

*PRO TiPS*

You can get some 3M packing tape for another buck while you're there to slap a clear label over the whole thing, then just take a pair of open scissors & trace the lines that separate the compartments. Instant removable labels for identifying mix, revision level, etc. You can "test age" your potions without worrying about dust/contamination.

You can also keep track of your progress by making a matrix on a sheet of notebook paper or spreadsheet if you can keep your keyboard clean while you mix. Each field represents one compartment. Write down your ingredients, ratios, taster's notes, etc. for each step so you can reliably reproduce your best results every time.

This can be done any number of ways; both for simple unrelated mixes and mass testing one main mix with several possible variations. If you make a spreadsheet, post it here, please! :toast:

Hmmm ...... I am liking this one. I usually use ice cube trays and cover them with aluminum foil for fermenting. Can't help but like the lid thing with the pill containers. Thanks.

I really like the compartments thing versus individual containers. Makes tossing out a whole slew of flavor tests that taste like ... very easy. Not that I've ever had to do that or anything .... just in case.

Glad to help, Harrysun.

I see you are a Commodore aficionado. When I was a kid, I remember enjoying such games as Pudding Mountain and Serpentine! I remember about a million games could fit on a 5.25" as well. We didn't have one but my friend did.

Oh, yeah. I was gonna say, also, too (S.P.) that you can use the pill container like a drawing board for hammering away at ONE recipe until you get it right.

What's that you say? Compartment 3 is decent but compartment 4 tastes like ...? Reverse the ratio of frog's eyes to bat's wings in batch number 5. One drop of goat's placenta to the whole batch should just about do it... Ah, flavor country!
