So after reading about the exploding e ecig incident in Florida I do not feel safe vaping. They are unsure about the brand he was using but it exploded in his mouth resulting in him losing most of his teeth n part of tongue. I use smokeless volt and smoov cigs automatic batteries.....what do you guys think are these safe? I cannot go back to analogs

I DO NOT leave my battery's on the charger overnight. Maybe I'm a bit pre-cautious but rather safe then sorry. I charge my BAT's while I'm awake. I also keep the contacts clean and don't stack batteries either. As far as auto BAT's go I hear nothing but great things about the VOLT's as far as unwanted ignition etc. I don't think you should stop vaping because of this incident unless you were already planning on stopping prior to all the hype.

I just don't feel it's fair to put a nail in the coffin on this whole story until the true details are released. I feel bad for the guy. Hope he's going to be alright:blush:

My thoughts are from the moment we all wake up and until we fall asleep, we all put our lives at one type of risk or another. After hearing all the media hype on this story it doesn't phase me one bit for vaping. I use a SB, Omega and jazz carto pipe now and never stacked batteries yet since I began vaping in early summer 2010.

I feel very badly for this guy and hope he pulls through as well. My heart goes out to him and his family for sure :)

I have been vaping for almost 3 years and have always left my batteries on the charger until I needed them. Since this story, that's the only thing I've changed about my vaping habits. A lot of people are freaking out over this story and worrying about vaping being dangerous. The fact is that all batteries have the potential to fail. It's happened in laptops and cell phones as well, but I don't see anyone tossing those out. This is getting the coverage because ecigs are controversial. Use common sense, don't abuse your batteries and you'll be fine. There are somewhere around 8mil vapers now each with multiple batteries and we've seen a handful of these issues. Personally, I've seen a lot higher failure rates in car products than these batteries.

Please people, try not to panic over this.

2.5 million people started vaping just last year in the US. This is the first serious incident of someone being hurt from a malfunctioning PV. Unless you are a real Nervous Nellie, I think you can do the math and figure out what to do.

I believe January was also a US incident.

I don't stack batteries in a mod where the vendor says not to. I do use mods with venting, soft fail points, and full standard electronic protection (over current, over temp,...). I do use the vendor recommended batteries in my mods. If a battery has obvious issues, I do get rid of it, not try to stretch its useful life.

For non-mods, like KR808D-1, I use the right chargers for them, and any sign of over-heating, just plain acting strangely (like stuck on), time to dump them. I will do a basic connector cleaning/de-gunk, but that's about it.

I'll happily keep vaping :)

According to the American Burn Assosciation about 900 people in the U.S. alone die each year in fires started by cigarettes, and about 2,500 are injured.About 100 of the deaths each year are children and non smokers.Nationally, human and property costs of fires caused by careless smoking are about $6 billion.

Just something to consider when looking at 1 ecig accident.

I won't stop vaping . Any lithium battery can explore, your cellphone, your computer ...
Only been vaping for 3 months now, but i do make a habit of cleaning contacts, but I use ego XL USB batteries, so I am not charging the same way most do. Apparently these batteries do not last as long as others, but I don't charge on the same connection. From my point of view this is better, but thats just my own opinion

Unfortunately, because of this story I occasionally imagine my battery exploding in my face. When I
smoked, I thought about lung cancer every day. Life is risky. I'll get over worrying about it. What concerns me
more is the government using this as an excuse to ban ecig batteries forcing us to make our own with more
potential for mistakes. Another headline I can see: "Chinese batteries used to blow up Americans!" The positive
of all of this is to make folks aware of the proper way to handle any li battery.

When I first heard this on the radio news I immediatly thought either a passthru or a mod that wasn't vented but either way this will not cause me to stop vaping, I have been vaping a little over 8months now and I feel better, smell better no getting up in morning hacking a lung and I just LOVE TO VAPE!!!!!!

It's not a matter of what can hurt you more or "there are millions of people vaping". I have heard the exploding cigs stories before. But the damage it did to this one man (being COMPLETELY careless or not) actually scared the living hell out of me as many others. I think the "knocking out all the teeth" part just made the story horrifying. It won't stop me from vaping, I'm just more careful now. What the OP is probably really wanting is comfort. So lets comfort these new vaporers instead of saying, "have YOU been struck by lightning?!! No!" Just give these members safe tips and leave it at that.
