From one noob who has just taken his first steps to another looking to jump in, some words of advise on starting out. Don't forget the juice. Make sure to order some different samples of juice from different vendors. Many starter kits will come with sample cartomizers with your new two piece system or sample bottles with your 3 piece system. You will need additional juice besides that with your first order. Mix it up! There's a lot to choose from and you may be surprised at what you think you like vs. what you really do like. If you are getting a two piece system like the KR808 then make sure to buy plenty of blank cartos. Prefilled are convenient, but most of the time they are pretty nasty. Fill your own blanks! My KR808 starter kit from Vapor4life came with 5 prefilled cartos of my choosing. Being a pack a day Marlboro Medium smoker I naturally chose their Cowboy flavor. I thought I would be smart and I went to FreedomsmokeUSA and ordered 30ml of Max/boro as well. Funny how everybody that quits analogs for vaping wants to stick to the flavors that seem to match their old cig brands. My intial orders came in and here are some things I learned.
  1. Cowboy really is the closest thing to a cig I have tried. Being so new, I am sure there are several other tobacco options that are even better; so I may get more, I may not depending on what else I find.
  2. Prefilled cartos just aren't worth it. Buy blanks and fill them with your own juice. Every prefilled sample I have tried has been....not so good. You will get way better flavor and vapor with the blanks.
  3. Max/boro really is not that close to a Marlboro, or any other kind of cigarette. It was very tasty, and somewhat sweet, but not really what I expected. I was lucky enough to find it enjoyable, but word to the wise...don't order 30ml of anything until you are sure you like what you are getting!
  4. Vendors love to send out samples! This is great as I tried a sample of Wyatt Earp from FSUSA and LOVED it! :thumb: It's going to be a mainstay in my rotation of regular juices. I just ordered a larger bottle of it, in fact.
  5. TRY FOOD FLAVORS! I ordered some 0mg flavors for my wife so she can experience the whole vaping thing with me. Guess what...I liked a lot of her flavors more than what I tried for myself. Desert, Coffee, whatever. Even if you don't think you will like a flavor, give it a shot. You may be surpirsed.
  6. One vendors RY4 or 555 or "marlboro/camel/winston/insert brand name here" is not the same as anothers. You may find one truly disgusting but another exquisite.
  7. If given the choice of pg/vg ratio go with 50/50 to start with and adjust accordingly from there. I initially went with 30/70 and found that the vapor was awesome, throat hit marginal. I switched it around to 70/30 on my next order. Not enough vapor for me now. Of course this is all dependant on the specific juice and vendor as well as what PV you are using. But for me and my trusty KR8, I think a good starting point is 50/50.
  8. Get a higher nic content to start. You are quitting analogs right? Make it easier to do so and get the 24mg or more if you are a PAD smoker. More than 1 PAD? Go higher! You can always vape less or go to a lower nic content later.
I hope this helps some of you get started off right. Seems that every newbie, including myself, is too wrapped up in deciding which PV to get. Just as important as what PV to start with is finding the right juice. Any veterans out there have anything to add or think I am way off here, please chime in. I'm still learning myself and willing to hear any imput you may have.

So get back to researching this forum. There is a lot to learn still!:matrix:

Chrizzle, your advice is right on! I thought I needed tobacco flavored juice to quit tobacco.....not so. If it weren't for the little freebie 5ml sample of Blueberry that came along with first juice order, I would have hated vaping. I didn't like any of the tobacco flavors I ordered. Let me tell you, I nursed that little 5ml bottle until I got another order in with stuff I liked. I was literally down to my last 3 drops before the mailman brought me some stuff I liked. lol. I have tried to tell all the newbies who asked about juice that tobacco flavored juice doesn't really taste like a cigarette anyway, so might as well get creative. Your advice is good....and good luck with your vaping.

Great advice! I'd like to add that if you buy juice that is too high of a mg for you and you can't get anymore right away, go to your local pharmacy and get some glycerin to mix with the juice to cut down the strength. I couldn't find any empty bottles to mix the juice with the glycerin so I found an old bottle of eye drops, emptied it out, rinsed the heck out of it with hot water and mixed the juice and glycerin in that. It worked really good for me!

Preach it!

Always try to note that folks should get lots of samples. You'll be surprised at what you really like because it is seldom what you thought you'd like. And who wants to be stuck with a big bottle of something that sounded good, but tastes horrible and it's the wrong strength too?

No kidding! I've tried a couple of samples that have been sent to me that taste like an old blue hair's perfume, while she is still wearing it and thought to myself " I sure am glad I didn't waste good money on this". Very tempted to toss it but It still vapes. If I'm ever in a pinch and can get over gagging on this swill I know that it's there. Hopefully that can be avoided, but ya never know.
