Thanks for all of the advice!!! I'm so glad I joined ECF and asked for help. All of you are awesome for sharing your knowledge & experience with all of us newbies!! I'm going to check out all of the devices that have been mentioned and research what ejuices sound good to us. I'm definitely going to get different devices for each of us so we can try them out. And my husband is a bit set in his ways... OK he can be a real pain in the keister when trying to change his mind about something... but I'm going to try to get him to keep on open mind on flavors. One of the many reasons we want to quit is to avoid the ashtray taste after we've smoked a cig. :nah:

Again, thanks a ton!! I'm sure I'll have more questions soon.

If looking for a vape juice that tastes like a cigarette, you may have better luck finding a unicorn.
And I have a drawer of unicorn wannabes to prove it.
I was a menthol smoker, so I never had to travel that long and winding road trying to find a tobacco flavor. Menthol is easy to mimic, although some were much better than others.

That's not to say that I didn't have a collection of unvapable flavors in a drawer. Back in the day, we didn't have vape shops with flavor tasting stations. Ordering only online, we usually had just a name to go off of; a picture or a description of the flavor if we were lucky. Boba's Bounty, Unicorn's Milk, or Mad Murdock's Radiator Pluid. What kind of flavors are those?

If he wants the ashtray flavor, I have a bottle. It's called black fire by inewera.

It's much easier to bury the notbacco flavor under caramel and vanilla. My personal fav right now is peach.

I still remember thinking to myself, "RY4?!?!... What in TarNation is RY1911 supposed to be? Glad I tried it though .. one of the few fond memories I have of vaping the first go round. If it weren't for the fact I convinced you here cloud chuckers running crazy high wattages with their 1.0 ohm coils. I'll just play it safe and get a dse-905. If only I chose the Golden Greek. That'd have been an investment.

@Scarlett71, certainly agree with not using a Tobacco flavoured liquid. Mint, menthol or a combination thereof is a reasonable starting point.

But a good idea would be to get small bottles of different flavours that interest you and with different VG (Vegetable Glycerine) and PG ( Propylene Glycol) amounts.

As PG carries flavours better, gives more of a throat hit and produces less visible vapour. But it can dehydrate you somewhat so remember to drink plenty of fluids.

VG doesn't carry flavours as well as PG, is more smoother on the throat, produces visible vapour and is thick or viscous so most drop in coils don't work well to not at all with high levels of to 100%.

While not a traditional tobacco, Halo's Tribeca is extremely satisfying for a Ry4 sorta vanilla tobacco type of experience. It was my first real vape juice and I love it to this day. The standard works fine in a mtl type tank like the Zenith line. However, it is expensive, so if you find it a hit, be prepared for the price ~$20 for 30 ml last I saw. However, at a high nic like 24 mg, you're likely to only vape maybe 2 to 3 ml a day (at least I did) so that mitigates the expense a bit. I think a lot of folks around here started with Tribeca at the beginning.

When I was using cartomisers they came in 'Tobacco' and 'Menthol'. The tobacco one wasn't unpleasant exactly but wasn't anything like cigarettes either (was a little bit odd, sickly if I was chain vaping with it).

I was a long time dubious about upgrading to refillable tanks with my own liquids as it sounded like a hassle I couldn't be bothered with - I was utterly wrong. It wasn't a hassle at all really and having a range of different flavours was massively liberating and being able to mix and match different flavours has helped keep me interested in vaping (and therefore more likely to stay off the smokes in certain situations)...

At the moment I've been using 'Streek' by Cosmic Fog - Strawberry Greek Yoghurt which is amazing. I can't believe I stuck with rubbish 'tobacco flavoured but doesn't really taste like tobacco' for so long when there's so many other options out there

Honestly I feel that the type of flavour that one decides to vape on is very personal opinion based.

But just my cents on the topic would be to try and stay clear from tobacco flavour juices as they taste far off from the analogue ones.

Any fruit flavoured juice that you like is fine as long as it keeps you off those nasty analogue. And always check your juice ingredient list. Try and stay clear of
Diacetyl it has been stated online that it is a harmful liquid when inhaled and can cause popcorn lungs. The liquid can usually be found in buttery kind of juices. However I believe most suppliers have tried to remove this chemical from their ingredients list .
I've been vaping and smoking on and off for quite sometime due to vaping being illegal in my country. But i have never wanted to go back to analogues unless I'm out of options.

Personally what I find the best setups are regulated mods or alternatively are the new Pod style/AIO's. As regulated mods ensure that you are vaping as safely as possible because news reports have stated of mods exploding in China and some other countries as well. Pods and AIO's don't allow you to control the output of your device thus may not give you sufficient vapour production for first timer off analogues. But I have found nic salts to be very effective in delivering the nicotine rush that some may require to get off analogues.

For great juices all around, Heather's heavenly vapes is definitely one of the best, perhaps a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it imo. I think most are put off tobacco's because most are just not that good, but hhv's tobacco line is really good. No matter what juice you buy, your not really going to get something like a true cig, because your not burning tobacco, but their NET line is naturally extracted tobacco and the flavors are very enjoyable. Usually nets dont do well with drop in coils, but theirs are very clean just like regular juices except one, sludge, which is very dark and lessens coil life...they have a wide array of juices besides tobacco's, so you can try those as well. My opinion on hardware is a mod and tank , not a pod. Good luck

Welcome to ECF .... you're asking great questions and have gotten some good replies. I'd emphasize that your first vape probably won't be your last. Don't worry about it because you'll save a ton of money in the long term.

There are several things you can do to ease the transition.
Drink lots of water ... It will flush the other addictive chemicals from your body that vaping won't replace.

If you decide to continue smoking during the transition, switch brands and only smoke 1/2 a cigarette at a time.

While I use an Innokin T18ii, there are lots of similar devices. The important thing is to jump in, give your device a try, and come back w/ your observations. You'll be glad you did.

Lots of answers above. I switched overnight, but I decided that my monthly cig expense would be available for vaping so long as I did not smoke. Reason is, I heard that it is hard to get settled and to buy spares....for the spares.

I recommend that. Do whatever you have to do. KILL!

Oh, my tastebuds were burnt from hot cigarette smoke, so don't expect accurate flavor for awhile., even then it will be in bits and pieces. Jus get your nic needs.

Most long time vapers have multiple units. Not because it took us that many to find the right one, but because there is no universal right one for every situation. Even for the same person.

Right! I need different devices for different occasions and variety of styles, and you never know what you’ll like better if you don’t keep trying new things. And saving money by not smoking, I am able to afford trying new things.

There’s no need to put yourself in debt to get started. Just think about how much smoking costs... you can get some nice gear for less than what you’d spend on a week’s worth of cigarettes.

When you are quitting, it's really all about the juice. For me I started with regular full flavor smokes and eventually settled on menthol for many years thereafter.

That said, Halo had some really satisfying juices. I was never a dessert or fruit guy, maybe just once in awhile. However, Tribeca was really what got me off analogs. Torque 56 was another good one for me, nice tobacco flavor and kept the cravings away. As for menthol, their Subzero is excellent too. Once you find the right juice it will all work out.

Welcome! As you have noticed, lots of helpful people here... and lots of info (actually info overload) All good advice and suggestions, but take some time and go through Brother Bob's links... helped me learn so much. Yes, you must have a back-up device (learned that the hard way) but with two of you this works our perfect... two different devices. For newbies, you seem well informed and asked very good questions. One thing nobody has mentioned... it is very hard the first two weeks (did I mention it's very hard!) It's OK if you break down. I started out vaping to reduce my smoking from pack a day to 5 cigs. One day, I decided I was ready... over two months now just vaping, except a once a week slip. I started with 18 mg nicotine and now down to 12 mg. One trick I do is keep some 50VG/50PG 18 mg juice to mix with other juices (to thin thicker juices or just to boost the nic level) If you want higher nic level, try the nic "salts"... more mellow. I haven't tried it, but some here say the best tobacco juice is Black Note, but it's very expensive (there is one other, but can't remember the name) I agree, this is not the solution... more like something you treat yourself to some day. Flavor is totally subjective! When you get your devices, depending on the coils (and ohms) will help you choose the right juice ratio (VG/PG) If you want to try a few juices and don't mind surprises, give vape-box a try (first sample pack is free... just pay shipping) Don't over think this for now. Good support here too.

I was going to say, "two weeks?! That's generous." But then I kept reading. Nic salts, are supposedly more of a natural experience, as freebase was developed by big tobacco and big pharma. Freebase doesn't exist naturally. That's why it goes bad. Salt is, well, like everything in vaping. It's still new. By the time we get it figured out, something different will be around. Welcome to the pool. I myself, suggest jumping into the deep end. It may feel better to dip your toe in, but... I'll stop myself before the metaphor breaks down. Point is, as I think has been said, you'll be spending less than you do on smoking. Even if you dual use for years, trying to figure out what system works for you. Don't get discouraged.
