Man, its been a rough morning.

So my tried and tested OKL-T20 box is, sadly, deceased. This morning I was doing my battery swap and put the batteries in reversed. I realized instantly (before hitting the fire button) and pulled em out to rectify the situation. Once in the proper orientation, I pressed the fire button. No dice. I pulled the batteries for fear of discharge, and then smelled the inside of the box.

Smelled like burning plastic. The chip itself, wrapped in insulation tape, was hot. Probably lucky it didn't catch fire.

It is a sad day indeed. Now I'm stuck at work with my mech mod, using the only rda with an usable mech mod build (the others I have are too many wraps). :(

That's the beauty of reverse polarity protection. Sorry to hear that man.

Yeah it was always something I knew I'd regret not having. Made it almost a full year without cocking that up.

Also, during the second reincarnation, she will certainly be fitted with some sort of reverse polarity protection, even if it is a one-time diode that prevents the chip from getting romped.

^^^ That. This is such a simple thing to implement from an electronics standpoint I don't understand why the vape industry has gone so stupid about it. The "annoy someone into having to buy a replacement only for it to do the same thing" program? Yeah - not gonna happen.

It was a custom-commissioned build (I don't even think more than 27 were made, even though I have #33). The dude had told me at the time that the next iteration would definitely have reverse polarity protection, but said dude up and disappeared. Rumor has it he has another vape shop in a different town, but I have no idea on his whereabouts or how to get back in touch with him.

It's fine, I know other experienced mod builders who are willing to fix this puppy up. Might take it in a different direction this time. DNA40, anybody?

That does suck but it should be a relatively cheap fix if you go back to a okl-20 and add reverse protection.

Hoping for this. Sent Garym93 a message, hoping he gets back to me/puts me in touch with Jay (the guy who made the box) soon. If not, I do know other people who said they'd be willing to work with it. It'd be nice if it could go back to its true daddy for repairs though.

Hope it works out well for you. I have traded with Garym93 before and he is a straight up guy so would I imagine he will reply shortly.

got an OKL t20 box from advanced vapors and it doesnt go up to 6v as advertised. it maxes out at 5.6 and wont fire any higher than that even though the potentiometer will still turn. any ideas on why this is happening?

What is the resistance of the coil you're putting on it. Keep in mind, it'll only actually be able to fire 6V if that's not maxing out the 110W limit (it might be 120 actually?)

For example, a .2 ohm coil set to 6V will try to pull a whopping 180W, or 30A, which the chip just can't do. .36 ohms at 6V will fire at 100W/16.6A.

ETA:

Also there's this! Mamu basically shows that the voltage under load is sometimes higher than what you'd expect (as much as .3V) and the voltage with no load is lower than advertised (5.6V). Very odd, but good to know I guess.

it was only a 0.5 ohm coil. and ive heard of people pushing this chip way past the amp limit. itll fire but it will shorten the life of the chip. it doesnt have any kind of protection like that so i think it would fire. and it only went to 5.6 with both load and no load. and my room mate has a box with the same chip and his went to 5.9v under the same circumstances (same volt meter).
