What about using a Powered USB hub? I'm using one from Belkin which is plugged into a wall outlet, with the USB from the hub plugged into my Airport Extreme which is also plugged into the wall outlet.

I'd do it... but then again, I like baked apples.....

I can't speak to the AP Ex or the Belkin, but people do use hubs often. Again, if it's a battery PT, probably not an issue unless there is a short or something. If not (if it is a 5V direct) then check the amps that it allows per port.

Some USB hubs won't have the amps to power direct passthroughs (which are, incidentally, the only kind I bother with; the last thing I need in my vaping experience is another battery). Your supplier should be able to tell you the amperage requirements of any PT they're selling. In my experience, 1000 mah has been sufficient. Footnote: iPod/iPhone USB adapters have worked for all of my PTs.

Sounds like a great excuse to go to newegg and pick out a shiny new motherboard with USB 3 and dedicated USB power ports - and a shiny new corsair or pcp&c power supply... and a shiny new hex core processor, a bunch of ram, a killer graphics board, a couple of SSDs, and a nice 27" LED back lit monitor (so you can see the youtube vaping videos better).

I was looking for a reason to get in to a new computer. I guess I better get a couple of pass throughs first so I can convince my wife I need to drop a couple grand on a new gaming (er... I mean *VAPING*) rig!

Scratch my last post, just researched what the other guys were saying because they seemed scarily knowledgeable...

I underestimated the power of these passthroughs and mods, definitely don't use them on your pc or laptop usb port if you are not sure it can throw out enough juice per port. Check the overall power rating of the bus and then look at what you're using, or if in doubt get a usb-to-wall-jack-doodah-thingymebob-whadjamawammitjammer (sorry for the technical jargon, thats what they're really called) (honest) (make sure you pronounce properly when asking for it in the store)

anyway sorry for my previous post, got caught up on the possible pc issues and overlooked the bones of the matter.

Love to all!

I just got a Gigabyte MoBo with USB rated at 1.5 amps. They call it triple power USB. It also has what they call ON/OFF charging. The USB ports supply power even when the system is off. It looks like MoBo manufacturers are building boards with USB power in mind.

That being said, be sure you get a power supply with plenty of overhead. If you think you need 500 watts, get a 750 watt power supply. The wattage they supply will drop as it ages.
