This is true, but have you never written something for a thread clicked post and ended up at "this page doesn't exist" or whatever this site does (not done it here, but have on other sites) go back to check and find it closed?

I hate that. It is often a topic specific thread that people are following, and they will never see a new thread that you start on the same topic. It's happened to me several times, a COPD thread comes to mind. Not something you can easily search for on a forum this large.
I can see closing the "What should I get?", "Did you see this?" threads, but some contain really good information, and they are lost.
