Well, I'm a pretty new guy here... I started vaping about 6 weeks ago, and I've been analog free for the last three weeks... I started with an 801 Pen Style. I also ordered a BLU for fun, that's gone now, I gave it to a friend of mine that is using it. I grabbed a couple NJOY 4081s at a gas station, used them on and off for a week, and those have been given away... two more ex smokers are now enjoying them. My office has three fewer smokers now... 3 down... 2 to go.
I have invested a lot of money into vaping, but I have also crusaded a lot and helped a number of other folks get into it as well. I can't honestly say I have saved any money yet, even though analogs in New York state are better than 10 bucks a pack most places. in the first five weeks of this endeavor, I've spent more on hardware, juice and accessories than analogs would have cost me, but this past week I spent absolutely nothing while consuming a small fraction of the juice I have here.
I've built a few box mods including a 5V dual 10440, and a Mad Vapes Blue Lightning, plus I own about 10 510s and a couple egos and a wicked stick... I've turned into a hardware junkie! I give a lot of it away to people that are just starting out. I'm basically using 510 cartomizers with a wide assortment of batteries, and I VASTLY prefer vaping to smoking. It's safe to say I'll never smoke an analog again. This forum has really helped with that!
Mistress Nomad... your videos are really great, and I've watched them all. Anybody just starting out would do well to give 'em a watch.
So now I'm going to make my actual point... From one relatively immersed noob to another...
People starting out seem to be pretty interested in "Cig-Style" e-cigs... Automatic batteries featuring small form factors that emulate the look and feel of a cigarette. This is fine as a crossover strategy, but soon the realization sets in that every last part of your starter kit is essentially disposable, with the possible exception of the charger. With Atomizers lasting a month or less, and batteries lasting 200 charges or so, whatever kit you so happen to start out with will eventually be replaced by other stuff, and as you replace the original stuff through attrition or product failure, your performance goals may change. The good news is that there are adapters and assorted bits of gizmology out there that will make transition to other form factors easy.
So my advice to a newbie, from a nearly newbie is as follows: Don't sweat the small stuff. ANY e-cig/PV is better than analogs... If you bought "the wrong thing", explore the suppliers sites and find adapters that will let you use up the stuff you bought while transitioning to better performing hardware. I still vape 4081 cartomizers and attys on my new batteries using an adapter, and when those bits wear out, They will be replaced with 510 stuff. If you have a BLU, you can use 306 cartomizers which will significantly improve the performance of the BLU, and when the Blu Batteries die, replace them with 510s or an ego... the 306 stuff will work fine.... when that wears out you can replace with 510 stuff...
So the bottom line for me is that you shouldn't stress out about which starter kit you get... sure, follow the GREAT advice that Ms Nomad has outlined and pick your poison from either the 510 system or the Kr808 system... but don't stress out over which one... you're in this for the long haul, it's not a sprint to the finish... you can easily and economically cross platforms until you discover what will work best for you.
And for the noob on a budget... Don't overlook box mods from the start. For under 50 bucks you can have a really high performing system that in no way resembles a cigarette, but absolutely delivers the goods when it comes to performance. If you are handy and can solder, you can have a great system with amazing performance for under 30 bucks!
