Spent 2hrs getting my first build to sit in this deck, wasted four perfectly good coils in the process.

This BIG Issue?

Petri-Build-Deck-EDIT.jpg

(I took this photo off a website, it's not actually mine)

The screws don't consistently capture 24g or smaller single wires!!!

Yes, I eventually got a 26g dual coil setup to hold, after three attempts, but I'll never want to go through that again!

Yes I could install coils of twisted 28 or twisted 26, but I'm not sure if twisted works well in dual coil config?

This would also be impossible to fit Titanium twisted duals in! (I kind of bought this to try Titanium duals).

Yes I could install dual Claptons, but I don't have any Clapton wire!

So I'm looking for options and any advise from anyone one who owns a v1.5

I'm thinking:

A) Catch the legs under the post screw instead of through the post holes (Anyone done this?)

B) Stick with 26g, but cross it through the post holes diagonally to ensure a contact point under the screw (Again I'd love to hear if anyone has done this successfully).

I have to say once built it was a stellar vape :)

Get some 20 awg kanthal. Use a small piece between the post screw and coil leg to ensure the coil leg gets trapped.

Thanks for the tip. I may try it, although it sounds a little bit fiddly.

My current 26g build is holding good, and this is quickly becoming my favourite vape, it's a rich dense vape:

Dual coil, 26g, 3mm ID, 6 wraps, 0.45 Ohms

I went to the vape shop today and got a couple of bottles of 6mg as my usual 12mg was too much for this build at 45 watts.

Also picked up some 24g Kanthal which I'll try next.

:)

Twisted kanthal works great in dual coil config. I use twisted 28ga duals pretty much exclusively. You'll just need to use a bit more power than normal to run them. My stock build is 8 wraps around 2mm, ends up around .4 ohm and takes 65 watts to get them to really sing.

I've never had an issue building on my petri. I usually run aliens, framed stapleds or claptons through mine though. It's a flavour RDA. I think it works best with coils that are designed for flavour imo.

I can't recommend this RDA enough. If you want one check out vapevine.ca they have the cheapest price for it hands down.

Yes, it is only single strand builds that would be problematic, but I thought it worth mentioning as many of us still use these.

I've not got round to trying any of the fixes mentioned above yet, as the 26g single stranded dual coil is still going strong.

I'm loving both the flavour an vapour production at 0.45ohms and 45 watts.

I'll report back when I've tried the single strand fixes.

@Tom Forde

I'll give your offer some thought, but I'd like to experiment further with the v1.5 deck before giving up on it.

Also I'm in Kuala Lumpur and you're in N Jersey so effecting a swap would be problematic.

I've not had time to try another build in the Petri, but picked up a pack of five Claptons today:

I'll see how the v1.5 Petri deck takes to these using the diagonal post hole technique.

Thinking I'll probably try these in the Aromamiser as well.

Running these dual coil at 0.3ohms should be a nice vape :)

I recently ordered one of these, should be here today. I had read about the big holes and have some twisted 26g Was thinking 5 wraps 2.5 id. Think this would be okay?

I'd think the legs would trap without issue being twisted.

As for the build, single coil 0.4ohms, but the Petri is designed for dual coils, so 0.2ohms. Will be fine if you have a regulated mod you trust down to 0.2, and that can push 80 watts.

If trapping the wires is giving you a problem (which it shouldn't), try bending the leads inwards after inserting the coil. When I build on my Petri, I get one coil set, fasten down the screws, then remove it to do the second coil. After I have both coils leads clipped properly and all I'll put them both in and fasten the screws down. Works for me. Try building with 24/22g. If you don't want to go down that low in gauge, my offer still stands, my deck is still mint, I'll even throw in some new coils

I got the Claptons installed.

I used the diagonal post hole method mentioned above, it worked well.

An added advantage of this, all legs go in via the inside holes, but come out via the outside holes, it makes life very easy when clipping the legs. ;)

The build itself, my first with Clapton's, was a very poor vape.

It has dreadful turbo lag. Hit the fire button, nothing for almost a second, then a good vape for another second, then too hot. :(

At 40w I get an okay but unimpressive cool vape.

At 45w or above it's just too hot.

My previous 26g single stranded dual build was much nicer.

Ok, finally got round to building with the 24g Kanthal.

Dual coil, 24g, 3mm ID, 6 wraps, 0.26 Ohms

This is by far the best vape I've ever had!

At 60w it's relatively cool, incredibly
dense, thick clouds, that are full of flavour

I could hardly believe it was the same juice, as there were notes I'd never noticed before!

Needless to say I'm done with Claptons.

24g is my new best friend :)

P.S: I again used the diagonal post hole technique, which I now favour for the Petri v1.5.

Looks like you found the sweet spot, excellent!
I'm going to copy you, I also have some 24g ready to go. Thanks for the update.
