I just got my new AGA-S and this thing looks pretty solid. I haven't set it up yet because of a debate I've heard and wanted to solicit some opinions.
The subject it what I've heard called double wicking. Wrapping the mesh wick material around a piece of silica or cotton wick.supposedly(according to the true believers)this is the holy grail of gen/atty wicks.but I've heard the same about the ceramic wicks too.
I've also heard that the aga-s does so much better with silica over mesh that wrapping mesh is a wast of time.
What do you folks think?

The AGA S is a genesis style atomizer. They are made to use SS mesh as a wick. They are difficult to build and get a working coil. Because the mesh conducts electricity, you have to oxidize the SS mesh by torching it. Then when you build a coil the electricity goes through the coil and not through the mesh. This is not as easy as it sounds. It takes a lot of finesse to get rid of shorts and hot spots.

As far as 'double wicking' goes, I really have not read much about it. A lot of people seem to have good luck using silica on the outside of the mesh to get rid of shorts. You should work on your building skills and then experiment with using silica inside your mesh. Part of what makes ss mesh so desirable is the great taste.

the hybrid wick idea works very well. the only problem is the mesh is still on the outside. you have to overcome the problems with actually building a setup with mesh first either way. once you get that down a hybrid wick is no problem prepare the mesh then roll it with a piece of softwick inside.

if you become proficient in building mesh wicks properly you find it is not needed. the aga I believe has posts inside for both mesh (horizontal) and silica (vertical).

one thing that IS being done lately is take a couple strands of silica, feed them into the tank and wrap the end sticking out of the hole like you would a mesh wick. many report this idea has very strong flavor.

Its ultimately up to you to decide what works best there is no "one way" to set up a genesis and this is what makes them so versatile and worth having.
