I have made numerous unsuccessful attempts to set up an AGA t2 with SS Mesh to use on my Innokin SVD. I always ended up with shorts and/or a ridiculous hot spot. I've come to the conclusion that (for me) this device is to difficult to set up on a regulated mod such as the SVD using SS mesh. I will give it another attempt on a mechanical once my Christmas present arrives. ;)

So today, in an effort to try and use this thing, and instead of getting mad at it again using mesh and ultimately throwing it at the trash can (as I sometimes will do when frustrated), I doubled over a piece of 2mm silica wick and wrapped about 5 wraps of 30 gauge, and then fed the wick into the juice hole. And to my surprise........

It vapes like a champ on my SVD. Great flavor, no burned taste. It's wicking fantastic. And all this on my first attempt.

While I intend to retry this with mesh on a mechanical again, I'm left wondering what the advantage will be?

Why Mesh instead of Silica?

I prefer mesh over silica. I find it produces a cleaner flavor and is lower maintenance. Easy to dry burn and give a little water rinse to get it back to pristine condition. Silica requires replacing every now and then., and to me, it has some inherent flavor that I don't appreciate too much.

On the other hand... if you have no issues with silica, and find that it gives a great vape... keep doing what you're doing. :)

If you find the mesh on the Aga to be too tricky, you can always cheat a little. A washer below the top center post nut shortens the distance to the wick. That's usually the main problem people have with the Agas; a hot leg between wick and center post.

i hate silica it frays really easy and i allways end with those little fragments in my throat (i dont know if im more sensitive to silica than others).
Mesh i dont even oxidize it, i just torch it, roll it, torch again, wrap my coil, pulse it and ready to vape (of course thats just after a lot of wraping and rolling), the aga t2 is a nice atty but if you just start with RBA the coil attached to the positive post could be a PITA with those horrible hotspots, thats why a lot of ppl recomends the RSST for beginers, of course if youre fine with the silica stick with it, mesh could be some tricky, but it really worth the effort

I am going through my ceramic phase I guess I even tried it in a protank head. Heats up way to fast. But in the genesis devices it wicks amazing. I cant get over the taste. Way better than cotton, silica, or any stainless steel mesh or rope. I thought I would never get a good running genesis device. But thsnks to the ceramic and a 4 straind flat braid 30 awg 4 wrap setup it is a monster. But not super harsh. Its running very well. Good luck on which ever way you choose to go.

I use mesh i my AGA T2. When i first tried building with mesh i had a hell of a time making it work but that's another story. At the moment it works fine. I use 1mm silica wrapped inside with enough at the bottom to stop it touching the tank. Soon i shall be getting some 2mm hollow ekowool and try sheathing the mesh and see how that goes. Not sure yet how i want to do it, either sheath the whole thing, just sheath the coil part or sheath up as far as the tank hole. I only want to try it to see if it improves the wicking. Hot spots aren't a problem and neither is the wicking but if it wicks better then it's worth it. I was thinking maybe sheathing up to the tank hole to stop the mesh touching the sides of the tank also. I don't think i want to sheath the coil part because the silica doesn't help with flavour does it !?. But i'll see how it goes. Anyone have any experience using hollow ekowool round mesh in an AGA T ?. What works best ?.

while the aga and other do work ( I dont want to be seen saying otherwise)

it is well known many of the cheaper genis are very problematic and several people agree if you can cut your teeth on them a properly designed device is a cakewalk.

Just because they can cheaply copy the form doesnt mean that also translates to the function.

with that said mesh was just where the genesis came from, it was the first style, and since then over time many have found alternative methods of wicking them work fine, there is no standard that says a genesis must be wicked with mesh, they are all just being based on the genesis concept of the tank style so it is up to the user how they ultimately set this type of tank up for their liking.

in a genesis I prefer mesh, with my juice it is outstanding flavor and thick thick vapor that i cannot seem to exactly replicate using soft wicks.

but it must be noted as many people are realizing not every juice stands out with a mesh wick in a geni. and I agree not every juice works with every wick style.
