Nice find, Lacey! It's heartening to see a professional look and review on the e-cig and the scientist was very honest and fair with his thoughts. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like Health Canada is going to ease up anytime soon since they want to know what the "long-term" risks are of e-cigarettes are. Wasn't too crazy about the last words they put on the screen about propylene glycol, either.

Excellent piece -- though I had to click through to clip #2 to view it -- really represents the essence of what we are pushing for here.

We need some more positive news coverage like this, hopefully more in the mainstream media.

Do we have a post somewhere that collects these little tidbits at all? may not be a bad idea to have to reference some of the nay-sayers to.

Tobaccoharmreduction.org is a wonderful group. I am so glad we have found them along the way. :)

I personally thought the reality of life was the best part... what it is that people like and want... not necessarily need. So true. I eat healthy because I need to. I exercise because I need to. I smoke because I want to ;) Bravo.

I'm not as enthusiatic as others on this webcast. The female host prefaced the interview with stating that the e-cig was a real cause for concern. The male host said that health Canada just did not know how safe they were. Having these comments prior to the interview actually frames the e-cig in an unfavorable light. Further, during the interview the host inquired if the product would addict people to nicotine? Dr Phillips fielded the question well by stating that 50% of the population liked nicotine and equated it with caffiene or driving your car for pleasure. It was pointed out that people who had quit smoking because of health hazards may turn to the e-cig thinking it was a safe way to smoke. At the end of the slot there was a disclaimer that stated that propylene glycol was used in antifreeze, deodorant, and mouthwash...all things you are not supposed to swallow. The 2nd part of the disclaimer stated that nicotine was poisonous and addictive.

So although Dr Phillips message appeared positive the way it was presented by the hosts was anything but. I'm just not feeling the love...

You are absolutely right about the way this was presented from beginning. I almost did not sit through it for that reason, but if anyone is hungry for information, they too will stick it out and see that FAIR testing and perhaps a few controls (which are not all bad, for sure) will be forthcoming, and all questions are answered for all of us.
We need to pay attention, if there is danger we need to know that. If there's comfort we need that MORE!
Thanks
