In the past week I posted in a thread or two about my disdain towards vapeing with 6 volts. This was my honest opinion at the time due to an unpleasant experience I had after building a few magnum mods and vapeing them for awhile. I found that using 6 volts was way too harsh on the throat for prolonged use. I was wrong, well partially.

I built a magnum mod with an adapter so I could use a 901 atomizer or 801. I then dripped some Non-PG liquid I had. It was like inhaling sand. It burned going down and caused my throat to be very irritated. It was not a pleasurable experience to say the least and I quickly abandoned the magnum mod after about two days of trying to make a go of it.

I did not give 6 volts a second thought writing it off as just too much voltage. Then I heard about the Prodigy and watched Steve’s video. I watched for a grimace or any visual sign of the same discomfort I experienced. There was none. Unfortunately, I had already posted my opinion of 6 volts in a thread and started doubting myself. Maybe there was something wrong with my mod. Maybe the atomizers I tried. I began to troubleshoot. After verifying voltage with a meter, changing atomizers, etc… I had no change. Then it dawned on me. I had only used NON-PG liquid. I quickly located some PG PS banana I had left over from a sampler pack and dripped three drops on the atomizer and hit the magnum mod. Within a few puffs the horrid irritation began to fade and the PG juice was very pleasant. It was a bit warmer than vapeing on 3.7 volts and the vapor was much thicker, as thick as VG on 3.7 if not a little thicker. The flavor was muted slightly but was still present and enjoyable. I continued vapeing throughout the evening without any of the harsh throat issues I had experienced with the VG liquid.

I can only surmise that when heated with an atomizer at 6 volts the sugar or other impurity of the VG causes irritation. Whatever impurity in the VG that causes this is not present in PG. Additionally, at 6 volts there is no need to spike the liquid with VG as the PG liquid produces an excellent volume of vapor.
So, Steve, please accept my apologies for peppering a thread with an opinion based on incomplete information. Please accept this post and order # 16374 as a retraction of my previous statements.

Bottom-line:
6 volts + 801 atomizer + PG Liquid = Awesome

Hey Frankly!

Happy to see you were able to diagnose the issue. I myself have not tried vaping VG at 6v ... I have however, been using a 901 atomizer (true 901 atomizer) at 6 volts for the past few days, and now I am even second guessing myself at releasing it at 3.7v ... 6v on the 901 is possible, inhales just have to be between 2-3 seconds instead of long and drawn out, which may be a huge plus to some. I myself am a long inhaler, thus, the 801 @ 6v is perfect. However, if I can get the same throat hit and vapor after only 2-3 seconds on the 901 @ 6v, less power is used in the end, and its a winning situation ...

I have personally just been not happy with the performance of 3.7v ... mind you, this may be scewed because I have been at 6v now for roughly a month .... decisions, decisions ...

I found the 901 atomizer to be the same way. I take long draws as well so I dismissed it but could see how someone who prefers 3 or 4 second drags would probably enjoy the 901 at 6 volts. I'm glad I got it worked out now as well and hope that I saved someone else the hassle of figuring it out.

I really think the 'sweet spot' for me is around 5v/1A. At that power level, you can still get decent throat hit and preseve a bit more flavor than 6v+. That said, I would never be without my 6v DIY devices. They may shorten the life of an 801 atomizer, but the kick is just outstanding. I generally will do a 5-8 sec. draw off a 6v device.

The only time I use 3.7-4 volts is with my DSE601 e-pipe or walking around with my Kissbox fitted with a manual switch.

You guys are only putting my mind at ease that I ordered all combinations (3.7v/6v and 801/901) :) I'm really looking forward to experimenting!!

Also been wondering, since I don't have any direct power currently it seems like the Prodigy and perhaps even the PS pass-through will be good at cooking off attys in cleaning process. Thoughts?

Has anyone done any studies on the temperature differences between the atomizers on the 3 to 6v difference?

The VG Acrolien issue is something that should be BROADCAST loud and clear here... It could be extremely unhealthy to vape VG at higher temperatures.

Furthermore, despite the studies done on vaping the PG e-juice contents at standard voltage, I've never seen any information on the obviously higher temperatures produced by 6v.

In no way is this pointed at the Prodigy alone, as there are many higher voltage mods out there. Perhaps this has been discussed before and I've not seen it.

As far as I know, no. I think we are all in uncharted territory here.

I'll search the forum some more and see if this has all been discussed before.

Twice the voltage, twice the Juice?

Maybe not twice the juice, but certainly more juice. This is all about what satisfies you. If a 3.7v battery provides a pleasing experience for you, you are certainly in a good spot. For me, a stock e-cig was like smoking an ultra light analog and was far from satisfying in many aspect. Higher voltage vaping filled in a few gaps and keeps me off the cancer sticks.

From what I have found with a magnum , I love the 6v hit but found with a RN4075 atomizer it ate juice way to fast and was harsh I think do to the fact they burn hotter not good for 6v , but with my true 901 atomzers it is smooth and enjoyable with less juice used . I can't wait for the prodigy to become available , and the pass throughs !
