Draw is way too airy on my new 3.7 device

OK, so I have been a Riva user for awhile now, almost exclusively using Cisco 306 atties. I did order a ProVari and am waiting for it. In the meantime, I ordered and quickly received one of the more highly-regarded 3.7 mods (14500 batt device). The build quality is fantastic and I am very happy with the power behind each hit, but the draw is way, way too airy for me.

I do use the cone on my Riva, preferring the tighter airflow it provides, but even compared to a Riva without the cone, the 3.7 device is just too airy for my tastes. It is slightly better with LR 510 atties but still not as pleasing as my Riva with a 306 LR. Plus, with the deep drip recess on this thing, I don't really see a good way to restrict some of the airflow and improve it.

I had hoped that this device would be a good, more portable backup to my ProVari once I got that but apparently not. Not a big deal, I'll just sell it at a vape meet or something.

But what worries me is that I am going to have the same opinion about the ProVari. Has anyone had a similar experience or can comment about the airflow on the ProVari?

Thanks!

What 3.7 PV are you using?

I use eGo/Rivas and also a 3.7 VP1 with 510 atomizers and never noticed a difference pull off them. By airiness I'm assuming you mean a lighter pull when inhaling.

Since you said you use 306 and 510 atomizers, I'm going to assume you use regular cartridges? One thing I tried before was putting some of the stock cart filler that I pulled from the carts (I replace with blue foam) into the small area under the cap at the mouth piece. This was done to catch liquid but made for a much harder pull.

There are 4 air slots on the Vari. They are a little deeper than those on a Riva but with VV you will be able to dial in as much TH and Vapor as you like and will find your vaping style will change with these options. I have not found the Vari to be to Airy for my liking. I also use the ProVape with a Cisco LR 1.5ohm 306 atty and the thing hits like a prize fighter. Hope that helps and happy vapes to you

The mod I have is an Icon from Puresmoker, one of the brand new ones.

I currently vape Cisco 306LR 2.0s on standard Riva batteries, cone on. The Cisco LR 306 on the Ikon is, frankly, just unvapable for me. Just way too much air in the draw. A Joye 510LR is better, but I still think I prefer the 510LR on the Riva battery due to the air flow, even with the cone off.

Oddly enough, it doesn't look like there should be too much airflow. The 510 sits down inside the adapter recess beautifully and there doesn't look like there is too much exposure for the atomizer vent holes at all.

Just now I remembered that I had some Boge 2.0 cartos that I never use (prefer dripping strongly) and I tried one of those using a juice that I know produces good vapor and TH (BWB Hunter's Blend) and the vapor production still seems decent but all that extra air seriously mutes TH.

I know this is not a "final solution" but it may be a good test. Some atomizer mods consist of simply putting a piece of scotch-tape over one of the vent holes (may be hard if recessed.... IDK about that mod). I've heard of people doing this to avoid "airy" draw. Also, ensure that your cart is fitting tightly on the atty, or try a drip-tip with an o-ring. Just some extra thoughts.

I like Stosh's idea even better.

Thanks for the suggestions. The o-ring idea, in particular, sounds promising.

As I said, I am probably going to sell the Icon. I have both a Big Kazoo and a ProVari on the way so I would probably use it infrequently anyway. I am just worried that I am going to have similar issues with other coneless devices so the o-ring idea may come in handy on one of more of those as well.

i have had the same problem with a few different devices being too airy, i vape box mods mostly. 0-rings work great with a 510 atty, masking tape seems to help alot, tonight i tried electrical tape it also does the job. place it where the atomizer and battery connect. air also gets in where the cartridge and atty connect.

i am constantly trying out new ideas to reduce the airflow on my box mods. it improves the flavor and the texture, or mouth feel of the vapor. it seems thicker with less air flow.

Home Depot carries "Danco" O-Rings in every size, they aren't always fully stocked but they have them all

Yup, thanks. I already picked some up at HD an hour or so ago when I was there for something else. The 3/8" outer diameter, 1/4" inner diameter rings seem to snug perfectly.

Alas, they did absolutely nothing to help with the loose draw on the Icon. With the ring snugged all the way down against the drip well it had no effect at all. So then I figured maybe the Icon draws air from around the button at the bottom of the device? Nope, the draw is not discernibly different whether the button is open or screwed shut.
