You hear about it, but always wonder when its going to happen. Well its hit me hard the past two days. Dropped to 6mg about 9 days ago after I reached a goal I set for myself. I thought things were going smoothly even though I was going through the liquid quickier and sleeping more, I expected that. Yesterday and today was a nightmare for everyone around me, I was being a total ..... Scrounged through my juices today and found a 12mg, feeling much better. Though feel like I am back sliding. Wife noticed and kind of got that disappointed look and tone from her. Still better than grabbing a pack of smokes. Would love to hear others experiences? Any guilt grabbing that higher nicotine, if so how do you deal with it?

I took about 9 months to go from 18 mg to zero. That was slow enough so I could give myself time to get used to the lower mg and have my vaping go back to the amount I was vaping at the next higher level. I was going down in 2 mg steps, so it worked out to one reduction per month.

For me, the most important thing was to not be smoking. I would have increased the nic a bit to give me more time if that was what was needed without feeling bad about it. Some people also use a bit more nic when they need it before they get too rough. That can also help wean down. In the end, whatever works for you is right for you.

IMO, don't push it and don't get down on yourself. You're moving toward your goal and you're not smoking and that is certainly success :)

I dropped "naturally" from 24mg down to about 6mg (about 3mg at a time) because it kept becoming too strong for me. From about 6mg down to 0mg, I dropped 1mg per batch of juice that I made. First two days I'd vape a bit more then okay. Since you're having a bad go of it, you can get some stronger juice to mix with the lower so it's a more gradual drop or just have some of the old to take a few hits when you get stressed. Always have something stronger for those moment you want to kill someone, lol. Don't beat yourself up, just take it slow.

12 to 6 is a pretty steep hill. Adjust trajectory and try reducing by 2mg at a time. It's less of a shock.

Scubadatdan makes a pretty good ejuice calculator for microsoft excel, if your computer is so equipped. https://www.filesanywhere.com/fs/v.aspx?v=89716a8960646eb99c6c

One of the tabs on there is a calculator for those wishing to mix juices of different nic strengths to get the desired result IIRC. If you don't DIY, it could help you out. Even if you do, it still helps.

Yep, recently dropped to 6. I had been vaping 6 in the evening with no problems
but not the morning. I switched to 6 straight across the day. I didn't realize how I
counted on that nic in the morning, ha. I scrounged through the juices and found
two bottles of 18 mg. Filled a clearo and whenever the urge hits to go crazy
I take a hit off the higher nic. I'm not worried it'll work out eventually in the end.

adam, I hate to be rude and meddle in family affairs, but you should let your wife kindly know that you expect her support at all times during the process of quitting because it is VERY important. Science has demonstrated that regardless of the method used to quit, those who had support and encouragement were much more likely to stay smoke free.

Don't feel bad about temporarily increasing your nic levels, in the grand scheme it means nothing. Be excited about meeting your goal and cutting down but don't let it get you down that you needed a little more today. Quitting is a biological process that takes time, and things don't always go as you'd like. Some days you're hungrier and eat more than normal too.

I've gone from 18mg to 6mg in the relatively short time I've been vaping, decreasing my level when I began to feel that the current level was too much (there have also been equipment upgrades to blame as well). Some people take longer, some do it quicker, others don't bother cutting their levels down and yet others increase it to their preference.

Don't stress yourself out over your nic level and relax. You chose to vape instead of smoke, so you are already ahead. Enjoy your trip to your goal, just remember to keep doing whatever it is that is keeping you from smoking.

That is what my wife does, she keeps a tank of her menthol tobacco 12mg around for those moments, hah.

I keep a low-ish ohm build (.14-.16ohm) and mech for those moments, 6mg on that thing and I'm set. I normally drip 1.5-3mg on a regulated device with a higher ohm build.

Sorry - no guilt offerings here. I have only dropped my nic level once so far since starting and since my MD has no problem with vaping or the amount of nic I'm getting from it I'm not about to nag myself into quit nic program after quitting 30 years of smoking. It will happen as it happens, when it happens.

I started at 24mg, then worked my way down. I honestly couldnt tell you in precise terms how long it took.

I vape at 3 now. The advice from the posters who said to keep a higher mg bottle around is solid.

Dont worry about it. Do what satisfies you, and you will see that you will drop nic all on your own. When the juice starts tasting, well, kind of spicy, its time to drop.

Just remember that any nic level is better than cigarettes :)

I have no earthly idea why you would feel guilty about using whatever makes you feel right. Sounds like your wife expects superman instead of Mr. Regular Guy. I bet she's never been a smoker, and has no clue what you're going through.

Now if you smoked, then I could understand guilt, maybe, though when I had my own backslide, it wasn't guilt I felt; it was disappointment that now I had to reset my quit smoking banner, and rage that my malfunctioning appendix and subsequent illness made such a horrible mess of my 3 1/2 months of smoke-free time (which was what I had then).

I started out at 6mg; now I vape from 10 to 12 mg, because *that's what I need* in order to not have cravings, or be a huge pain in my husband's backside. So, tell your wife you can be a fun guy at 12mg, or a huge PITA at 6mg. If she thinks you *ought* to be able to be a fun guy regardless of your nicotine level, then she has no comprehension of what you're going thru, so no amount of explaining is going to make her accept you as you are. Before I knew my husband, he didn't even allow smoking in his house. When he met me, a smoker, all that went out the window, and he put up with my smoking for TWENTY SEVEN YEARS. Is he delighted I quit? You betcha. And he supports anything I need, in order to remain smoke-free, anything at all.

I hope you can keep on vaping and never have another cigarette again.

Love goes a long way.

Don't feel bad at all!! I started at 24mg. Dropped to 18 because I couldn't stand the peppery taste of the juice I'd bought, and found out that it was common at 24mg For 8 months I struggled with super cravings at 18mg. Finally found a juice that I liked at 24mg and the cravings went away. That was when I knew I wouldn't go back to smoking.

Recently I thought I could drop back to 18 cuz I sometimes feel a bit jittery, and a few heart flutters (heart is fine btw), but I only made it a week at 18mg and had to go back up. Now I see why so many say to cut back 3mg at a time! 6mg at once can be a huge jump. Many of my flavors will go good together, so soon I plan on mixing some 18 and 24 together to get 21 and try that.

Bottom line is.......you aren't smoking and you should feel nothing but PROUD of that!!! good luck to you

Ok maybe guilt was the wrong word, and yes I'm probably sweating the little things. I'm very happy to not be smoking, recently passed my longest time of not smoking. I guess everyone has their different goals in vaping. Mine is to get to 0 and quit everything while a safer alternative, I don't think want to do this rest of my life personally. So I'mma chaulk it up as a bump in the road and vape higher for a bit longer. To clarify, Wife is supportive as she can be for a "Never-smoker". The date I joined maybe 4 years, but there's a lot of long relapses and spending shes put up with ...more than I would care to admit. Shes proud I'm not smoking and in 10 years never has nagged about smoking or vaping so I can understand her skepticism when it seems like a backslide, I've given her enough reason to. The 3mg drops has been what got me this far. I saw few mention 12 to 6 was steep, I was at 9 just happened to have none in the house.

Keep up the quitting,
Adam

*lol* me too..I had progressed from 24 to 18 quickly a month or so..then at two months a 12mg...then at three I thought I got this..and got 6mgs OH NO! *lol*
OUCH! so back up to 12mg for a few more months now..and I'm mixing those 6mg juices I got with their replacement 12mg ones..I'm at about 8 to 10mg now 3/4th of the day.

a half jump was TOO much too soon..I went by how I feel..I just now at 8mos got rid of my "emergency 18mg" tank *lol*

all of it's still better than smoking!! don't be hard on yourself!!

i been staying around 12-18 for a couple years now, i dropped from 24-36mg when i started. I've tried some 0-3mg but it just doesnt do it for me, it just feels like im inhaling air. I dont think myself 'needing/craving' that nicotine, but after a day or two it just personally feels to me like, why am I even vaping? this 0mg feels like nothing just breathing in scented air akin to something like febreeze or something (i dont vape febreeze dw ) but personally i found myself asking why am I just vaping this 0mg. I love vaping its a side hobby for me, and I didnt want to quit so i just tuned back the nicotine. I'm sure I could possible drop to 6-12mg with these RDA's now and upping my PG, but personally I got into vaping because it is a *healthier* alternative to smoking for me (in the fact i dont have smokers cough, and people arent offput by me vaping, and I can do it in the house without it smelling like a stinkpad. Could I fully quit if I wanted to? Im 100% sure I could as I dont get cranky or lost if I dont have a vape for a couple days, but vaping is just more enjoying than smoking and I dont feel the need to quit because of that, much like tasting fine wines or tasting craft beers. Until they have discovered something that is detrimental to my health then I'll keep on vaping, if it was the nicotine then I would probably quit altogether.
