Atomizers differ in form and function. A Joye 510 has wicking and mesh to help block leaking onto the battery. The atty in my smokymizers don't, they rely on a vacuum. My Boge cartos tend to blow juice onto the battery connection . If you're using a manual/sealed battery it doesn't matter. An auto setup will likely fry if it happens.

The drip shield was made specifically for the 901 atomizer. The 901 has a hole for air close to the bottom of the casing. When dripping using the 901 you can only get in 2 drops before the juice comes out of that hole, making it very frustrating. So the 901 atomizer was put away for those of us who dripped. It gives great flavor and a lot of us were saddened by the fact that the 901 could not be used for dripping without having a huge mess.
With the Drip shield, you can now use the 901 for dripping. The juice that leaks from the side hole is now captured in the shield and gets pulled back into the atomizer when you take a hit off the pv you are using. HTH

thanks so much for the reply's, i understand it now. i dont use an automatic batt and im little leary of having a puddle of liquid on the battery connector even if its a "sealed batt".
it makes sense to use the shield on an 901 atty from the sounds of it. im using COV Dual Coil Atomizer 1.5 ohm, tomorrow i should get a 306 from vapor-age. i never drip enough in my atty (on the ones im using) that the liquid would start pouring out of the sides.

thanks again.

So, these 901's do not need that fuzzy business in them? I have some with and some without, just got some whistle tips today and am not sure how to do it without making a mess and or breaking my new battery. The chambers they are attached to have no fiber in them.

The fuzziness is the wick. The wick holds on to the juice and helps to feed the coil of the atomizer. Some people de-wick, some de-bridge and some de-wick and de-bridge. Here is a video link ( How to remove your Wick (Mod) - YouTube ) that walks you through the process.
I would need more info on what e-cigarette you have as I am not sure if you are talking about an atomizer or cartomizer or one of the newer styles that are out now.
