I'm a motivated sponge for information (for anyone who has seen I'm asking too many questions lol)

This sounds like a good way to sample and cycle through flavors as I get started. I am getting a Kanger Protank 2 and mini 2. I saw a video that not all drip tips fit and advice from a friend that any 510 should work. So for starters any suggestions on what I should be shopping for appreciated.

The other thing I wondered is if there is any real differences between models? If so what are they? They don't look much different than any other mouth piece (not sure is there is an actual term for that).

I see lots of videos of people using them, but no real explanation on what they are, pros/cons, and if it's worth it.

Mainly, its for bling factor. Some may argue other wise.

I orderred some jade stone one's. Some material may help with heat transfer to your lips. Long steel ones may cool the Vap.

That's the gist of it.

Here is a sample for your viewing pleasure.

Some drip tips may not fit for obvious reasons (machining tolerances ). Most will fit fine without trouble.

Cheers

I just sent off an order for mine (just for tasting, PITA filling the Protank2 and then discovering it needs more steeping time or is just plain rank). So, no expert, but I'd say buy cheap, and stick to a similar material as your usual: as Chic_Addict says that may affect the temp (and thus the taste) so replicate what you'll be using day to day if possible. I opted for full metal because I like the steel tip on the protank, and have a glass tip on its way, and just prefer the cooler sort of vape. Since you're pretty much same as me with the 510 and Pt/mini setup, I'd say go the same road, just avoid the plastic drip tips and even get a mini atty and a longer one to compare the draw.

Drip tips got their name historically because early vapors used only drip atomizers and need "tips" to protect against hot e-juice splatter to their lips. The term "drip tip" hung around to mean any mouthpiece used on a juice delivery attachment.

Drips tips come in various lengths, shapes, and materials to fit certain situations and personal preferences. Longer tips can cool the vapor. Glass, tru-stone, ceramic, and plastic insulate against heat better than those made from metal. Some can bend at an angle for more comfort. Drip tips can also be used to top off an e-cig personally to become a decorative fashion statement (bling).

Actually I do have another question, do I need to get a drip shield? Sounds like the safe thing to do based in the desc, but is it actually required to not fry my EGO Twist batt?

Drip shields are only used with drip atomizers. Their intent is to catch any e-liquid which can leak from the atomizer and dripping on your battery.

I only use a drip atomizer in my bottom feeder box mod, so I don't use drip shields. Maybe someone like The Ocelot who uses drip atomizers can add more insight.

Vapage VMod bottom feeder box mod. Inside the body is a removable juice tank. Squeezing the bottle through a window in the body of the mod feeds juice into the bottom of the atomizer. Each time the atty needs more juice, you squeeze the bottle again.

You will hear of people talking about the Reo. This is the most popular bottom feeder box mod.

The drip shield was originally developed for 901s, with their side hole, but can be used on 510s and can be adapted to use with 306s or i06s. They are a cylinder that surrounds the atty. They typically have an oring near the bottom and the top and a couple of small air holes under the top oring. The idea is that with the bottom oring beneath the level of the atty bottom, any leaks will be held within the drip shield, and can be sucked back into the atty and vaped. They also tighten the draw.
Most drippers I know use the Empire Mods shields: Empire Drip Shields
Empire has some good drip tips too.

You can get by without one on a 510 atty.
