I didn't like the metal feel either so I wrapped it with a piece of heat shrink tubing.

Got this off of wikipedia (not the best source, I know)

Advantages of acetal based plastics:

  • Chemically resistant
  • Very low water absorption
  • Resistant to hydrolysis by base
Disadvantages of acetal based plastics:

  • Low impact strength
  • Low melting temperature
  • More rigid than nylons
  • Very high thermal expansion
  • Sensitive to acid hydrolysis and chlorine attack

hmmmmm low melting temp... dunno about that.

Perhaps Jeff may consider the Thag-Built tip. Maybe chuck a little acrylic plastic into that beast of a lathe. Of course if it were Thag-Built I'm thinking it might be made out of Titanium, be 3 feet long, and weigh in at 1/2 a metric ton! (not to mention Jeff might want to consider sleep occasionally.)

I think he's completely stopped sleeping -- he's averaging 6 newborns a night in the pr0n for the last 4 nights.

I'm pretty sure you don't get Lock Jaw from brass. From what I understand it comes rusty steel. here is a quick search:
What is tetanus?

Tetanus, commonly called lockjaw, is a serious bacterial disease that affects muscles and nerves. It is characterized by muscle stiffness that usually involves the jaw and neck that then progresses to involve other parts of the body. Death can result from severe breathing difficulties or heart abnormalities.
Who gets tetanus?

As a result of widespread immunization, tetanus is now a rare disease in the United States. Tetanus occurs more often in older people and in agricultural workers for who contact with animal manure is more likely and immunization is inadequate. Neonatal (newborn) tetanus remains a major problem in many developing countries where women are not immunized appropriately against tetanus.
How is tetanus spread?

In unvaccinated individuals, tetanus is contracted through a cut or deep wound which becomes contaminated with the organism. Tetanus has also been associated with clean wounds, surgical procedures, insect bites, dental infections, and intravenous drug use. It is not transmitted from person to person.

Two years ago, during my physical, I told my doctor I wanted a tetanus booster. I started to explain why and he interrupted to say "Absolutely you should. Most people don't get them often enough." All I could think was "All you had to do was tell me to get it and I would have."

So get a tetanus booster and don't step on any rusty nails. That will protect you from lockjaw.

A booster every 10 years and you are covered. :)

I've ordered them and they should/could be in the mail tomorrow. Funny thing is, I don't even drip! Just couldn't stop myself! I have SS Tips but I don't like them. They make a PV top heavy, they're cold and the hole is too small and doesn't let the juice flow down. I know, other folks love em. Drew's Delrin Tip has a larger bore and is ergonomically shaped so I'm hopeful.

I think the first batch of the T tips have the smaller holes, he has since enlarged it, and now he has a "Shorty" for the 501/901 .. it's great ! On a big chuck I don't really notice any difference at all in weight/balance ... but I am interested in the Delrin because they're black !! LOL it's all about fashion... don't cha know ;)
