Could be any of a number of factors.
-A lot of the time (not always), factory coils are wrapped too tight thus reducing the wicking ability of the silica.
-Voltage is too high for the resistance of the coil
-Some flavors are harsher than others
-Have you tried cotton as a wicking material?
-Hot spots
-Sensitivity to higher pg ratios
-Insufficient airflow to the coil

What drip atty are you using? On what device? At what settings? What is the measured (not labeled) resistance of your coil?

These are some of the factors that can contribute to a harsh vape. Others may chime in with more. However, to help you troubleshoot your issue without more info is futile.

If you're talking about rebuildables with large atomization chambers, I have that problem. Side air-holes are the worst for me. After much experimenting with coil positioning, different air inlet/outlet sizes, positions, and number of holes, I came to the conclusion that the large atomization chambers just don't work well for me. Always seems more harsh, though I was able to improve it.

My favorite, so far, are eVod heads. Optimal airflow, and can be rebuilt.

need more info what are you using?'

the first problem with rebuildables is the airflow must be perfect in relation to the coil. the coil too far away or the air coming in is not hitting the coil properly. any of this will increase TH drastically, and when tuned perfectly a good dripper has almost zero TH.

factory wrapped coils suck, i have never seen a prewrapped coil that is worth anything, they may exist but i have never gotten any.

if we know what device and what is being done to it we may be able to help tune you up.

The one I have you can screw a centerpiece to partly cover the holes to adjust the draw.
there are several like this where the airhole doesnt line up perfectly with the height of the coil and/or the coil is too far away when mounted next to the posts.,
some of the FT clones are particularly bad for this.

I don't know what brand the rebuildable is. The box is black with a firework. Design with no brand name on it. It comes with a SMS blue handled screwdriver. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1375550056.376160.jpg

I think I have that same dripper. Are the air holes fully open when you screw the ring all the way to the top? I run mine all the way open.

Also remember, if you're doing dual coil, the resistance is half an individual coil resistance( 2- 3ohm coils = 1.5ohms).

I'll build this thing until I get it right. What size silica, and kanthal are you using and how many wraps?

I'm using 3.5mm silica and 34 gage nichrome 60. 5 wraps gets me .9-1.1 ohm.

I'm going to assume you probably have 32ga kanthal. If so, probably 6 wraps would get you to ~1 ohm.

You might want to start higher than 1 ohm. It's personal preference.

Make sure your airholes are lined up with the coils.

If you don't have a way to check resistance, you really should get something.
