I personally use only Joye 510 attys, and do not remove the wick or bridge. Just 4 drops directly onto the bridge. Rarely leaks, and vapes great every time. I use a drip tip and drip through the center hole. Perhaps your problem is not the atty, but the battery is not giving enough voltage to vaporize the juice well. Weak batts tend to lead to flooding.

If you are not using Joyes, which are about 2.5 ohms, but rather using SLBs, which are 3.0 ohms or a little more, and a regular battery, then this can also lead to not enough power to vaporize the juice well. SLBs are generally best on true 3.7V or 5V PVs.

Well if you insist on altering your atty, since some claim to have good results (I leave my atties alone), I would say first go with bridgeless. If you are still not satisfied then take the wick out.

I would imagine that not only would it be a pain, but ineffective if you only took the wick out, but that's just a guess ;)
