I am fairly new to this so guess that might explain my ignorance. I purchased some atomizers. They were debridged. Think I got them from smart vapes. I tried vaping the other night using the dripping method and did pretty well. I had a drip shield on there and every now and then I would have to remove it and wipe everything off. Tonight I thought I would try some dripping again. I did not put the drip shield on there just had a piece of paper towel in my hand so I could just wipe when needed. Tonight I did basically the same thing I did the other night, except no drip shield. I put 3 or 4 drops on the addy. It would not produce much vapor at first, so I thought it was flooded. Hit it another time or two and got the vapor. Then the next time I would have that really burnt taste. I would put another 2 drops. It would act like it was flooded with little vapor. Might get one good hit off of it. When I would hit it again would be really burnt tasting. Basically here was the pattern. Put liquid, It would act like it was flooded, When I hit it one more time good vapor, next time would taste burnt. I did clean the atty by putting it in some vodka and letting it sit about 30 minutes. It was dry though before I put it on the battery. Is this burnt taste that the atty has gone bad? Just used it 2 or 3 times.
Thanks

I'm far from an experience dripper, but I have cleaned my fair share of messes and had plenty of bad hits. What works for me now is to start with an atty state where i am beginning to get a bad flavor, put in three drops, and get 3 - 4 good vapes before getting the beginnings of that bad flavor again. With this, I rarely have any leakage and get good vapes.

If they are the ones that come from smartvapes, they have no primer. Put about 8 drops in there and let it sit for 10-15 minutes, dry pull on it, if you hear a slight gurgle vape, if you don't hear it add 2 more drops. When you clean them, don't dry burn them. After you clean them you have to reprime them with the 10 drops wait. Most atomizers also have a break in period as well. With the drip shield, if you dry pull on it, it should suck the excess juice up into the atty, then less cleaning.

Oh, thought I would mention I was trying to drip bobo's blend. I know I have read it was thicker but I was dripping directly on the addy.
I am fairly new at dripping also. Suffered some of your mishaps. VG seems to be tough. When I flood you can save the juice by using a syringe that's if you have a device that can catch it. My Vtube can. Also play with voltage. Learning curve with this is a challenge LOL.

I do not think I put in enough juice starting off then. Curious about the reply from tj. I did notice that it did seem to be a stiffer draw. How would I have changed the airflow.
A drip shield will alter the air flow. Once you get it all figured out you can actually adjust the air flow by moving the shield up & down just a tiny bit to fine tune the atties performance.

Is there much difference on drip shields or are they all just basically the same thing and differ cosmetically

Back in the day we just used an o-ring which could be moved up and down to control air flow and catch the juice that leaked.
The 901 atties with their hole in the side spawned the modern day drip shield that worked so well that we adapted it for other atties.
Here is a pic of an e-power with an o-ring that can be moved up to partially cover the connector to tighten the draw on a 306 atty.

That is basically what is inside a drip shield.
