Driptip ????

Hey everyone. Hoping that someone can help. I recently bought two "swirl" driptips. They look awesome. The problem is they have this weird burnt electronic plastic taste. I tried soap and water. It didn't help. $8 is a lot to pay for 2 replacement o-rings, so I'm hoping I can figure something out.

And this isn't a "taste is subjective" thing. I have two clear plastic driptips that came with my tanks that are fine. If I switch to the others, there's a dramatic disgusting difference.

wish i could help jmpublius but I have a couple of those and they are great. The only DT's I really dislike are those squishy silicone ones. I'm saving them to send to katz someday
Maybe soak them in a mild lemon juice and water solution for awhile?

Maybe if the lemon juice doesn't work, a baking soda/water paste?

if the soda doesnt work, maybe try plain old outdoor air and sunlight.... just let them sit out in the sun for a few days. Not knowing what the cause of the taste you are getting, its hard to say, but some plastics will "off-gas" for a while. UV and O2 seem to accelerate that. Let us know what ends up working!

I haven't experienced this with mine... Maybe try soaking it in a glass of water over night?
I normally use either the Metalic ones, or the squishy silicone dt... the only probably I have with the silicone dt's is that it pops off too easily, and kinda absorbs the flavor of the juice, especially something like chocolate.

Other than when they have gotten funky from usage / needing a good cleaning, I've never experienced any taste given off by the drip tips themselves. I have the metal, delryn, ming vase, swirl, and silicon (Which I also dislike due to squishy factor) ones.

OMG! I have the exact same problem and thought I was the only one! I have tried washing with soap and water; soaking in VG overnight and even soaking in sucralose overnight and NOTHING helps! Luckily, I only bought one(supposed to be red, but really is a dark maroon--not thrilled bout that either, but I digress) but I can't use it. I'll try the baking soda and sunlight.

Hey everyone, Brandon from V4L here. I noticed that many of you are concerned with the drip tips and a "plastic" taste or smell. FWIW, I've got a variety of each of the available types of V4L DTs (about 20 in total). I have yet to notice a strange taste from any of them... Must be a highly variable issue.

I can't help but wonder if this isn't similar to the off-gassing of many plastic and vinyl products......like in a new car or with olefin carpeting when these things are just recently manufactured. I don't think it's harmful and it eventually goes away, but I guess that doesn't address right now.....

anyone having probs with the o rings on their drip tip's? After using them for a couple of months they don't seem to fit in the tanks correctly. Referring to the regular plastic tips that come with tanks. Worn out maybe?

Sounds like it's just worn out Ms. Dedi. Usually get about 1-2 months of use out of the original orings...

Sorry I haven't posted back in awhile. The end of the semester and an almost 3 year old occupy most of my time. I'm pretty sure that what Lisa66 is describing is what is going on. I took them both out of the package and it does seem to be going away. Not completely, but it's getting better, so I'm just gonna wait it out for now.
