Dry burning an iclear 30s coil

I want to try this dry burning out on some old partly knackered coils after seeing it done on a youtube video. I've watch them gradually heat the coil, slowly burning of the crap eventually doing longer burns that make the coil glow red hot.
Does this not burn the wicks out that run through the middle of the coil ? The coil I want to try it on is an iClear 30s.

Take the wicks off and clean it the best you can, I just did this last week. Quick bursts at first, then burn a little longer until the coil burns bright red.

Most premade coils use silica as wicking material. Silica does not burn under the temperatures that most coils will reach. I used to torch my silica to "clean it" (if you torch burn silica, it'll turn white again)...this was back when silica was expensive. Now I get 33 foot roles for $5-7.

I dry burn my coils with the wicks in them in my protanks. The wicks are silica and will not burn. I'm assuming the iClear 30's wicks are also silica.

Thanks everyone. I did not realise that silica did not burn and as you cant get right inside the iclear30s to replace it, I just wanted to be sure it would work. Ill do what I saw him do on the video, it looked like it brought the coils back to really good condition again.

Never tried it with my 30s's; the coils last long enough for me to make it not worth fiddling with. I just buy new ones when I need them.
