I always dryburn mine when the wick is slightly damp after cleaning. Continue to pulse in 5sec bursts until coils glow red. I always rinse the heads after dryburning. I do this at least every 2 tanks and have never popped a coil. My heads last about 6 wks or longer- the silica usually degrades before the coil.
Yep, and when that happens to me if the coil still heats evenly I leave it in place, pull the spent wick out with tweezers and thread a new wick by doubling it over and using a dental floss threader.
