After I successfully went through the silly process of wiring an 801 atty to my dse905, i found along the way that if you short the battery in any way by having an improper connection, the built in short protection kicks in and protects the battery from shorts (which is what happens when you see the light blinking for a short time and the atty not heating up). 5 short blinks means it's shorting and the device is protecting the battery. This can be easily duplicated by taking off the atty, and putting a paper clip across the center circle and the threads (creating a short circuit) and the pressing the button. 5 short blinks should occur.
It's nice to know that it has this protection. But it also means your adapter is built faulty.
