Thx for the advice, Tinstar. I'm on my 4th atomizer in 6 weeks. I will probably try to do what you've done, but honestly, I really find it a pain. There seems to be a serious issue with quality control/design. My wife's pipe works perfectly, while I've had no luck with my succession of atomizers.

Folks, I've had similar problems, but I've just discovered that using the pipe without the cart might be a solution- just drip directly on the atomizer, and then vape away.
I might've spoken too soon... the atomizer seems to have completely died on me after just a couple weeks.
Personally, I don't use the 601 but I got one for my husband and have "modded" it for him. He uses it all day long and really loves the thing.
At first, the draw was very hard, and he was having trouble getting juice to wick rapidly. I intalled a 2mm cocktail stirrer straw in one "corner" of the cartridge. That helped a great deal. It's even better now that I've replaced the polyfill with blue foam. I cut a strip that is 3" long by 3/4" wide. I fold this in half and push into the cartridge almost all the way to the bottom. Then I add the straw (about 1 1/4") by pushing the foam aside in a corner.
The eliquid that I make for him is 50% PG / 50% VG. If your eliquid is too thin you may get flooding. Too thick and you may have wicking problems. Also, I use double the flavor in his pipe compared to my PV's. The pipe is a flavor killer.
He never drains it or maintains it in any way. All he ever has to do is add eliquid and change to a freshly-charged battery once a day. Seems to work like a champ!!

Yeah - maybe so, but he's been a pretty derned good husband for over 23 years, so I reckon that maybe he's earned some spoiling. Plus, he's battling colon cancer and just isn't up to much more than refilling and battery changing.

"4. Retrieval Operation Mode:
After a product has been used for 20 to 30 days, and with a new atomizing alkaloid liquid container is installed and battery fully charged,if it happens that the atomizing quantity reduced evidently,please take out the tobacco alkaloid container.Use a metal object to connect screw with copper pillar. Repeat this operation until the indicator light illuminates for ten to twenty seconds.After founctions retrieved, the product can be used normally.However, the operation should not be used frequently."
Ruyan makes an absolutly beautiful pipe that goes for around $300!!! On sale now at Heaven Gifts for $156.

Interesting Most of the websites are pretty cagey about the desription but some of them actually come right out and say "real wood" and one actually said "real mahogony wood". Here is the email I got yesterday when I wrote directly to Sailebo:

I have heard that there are many fakes out there. I have read alot on this forum about Wayne (Heaven Gifts) selling what his website claims to be the Ruyan Rosewood but there is no box or documentation. I have bought from Wayne before and been pleased with his products so this is not a personal slam. But here at the forum the pipe smokers talk as if it is a known fact that the pipe Wayne carries and the "real" Ruyan are different products.

I got the dse601 from MyPVShop.com in early Dec last year. I ordered two so they could be rotated every day or two. One draining in a glass while the other is being used. If he used to mix his own tobacco blends than this is right up his alley. It is best to mix because flavors are muted so that premixes will not always give the expected tastes. There is definitly a learning curve and a requirement for patience. But then again, so it was with the real tobacco pipe.
I am looking at getting the Ruyan only because of three reasons that are hear say to me right now. The claims are that it does not wash out the mild flavors, the atomizer lasts much longer (ie 5yr warranty), and the recent price drop. Heaven-gifts is the only place I have seen with the price drop and they are out of stock.LOL! Easy to have a price drop when you don't have the item.

Yes it helps very much. Thank You! As far as the Ruyan goes....the biggest reason I have found to choose it over the 601 is that it has a sealed battery. I'm pretty sure that would be why the atty lasts longer. But from what I've read it also means you can direct drip with it although never having seen one in person I have no idea how that might work

No...that's a BW-601. The "real DSE-601" is made by Sailebo. That is the one that people seem to say they like and have the least trouble with. And it's knockoffs like this that seem to be of poorer quality. Of course I wouldn't know since I don't use one I'm just trying to piece together what I'm seeing on websites and what people who do use them are reviewing.
