OK
Since nobody has responded i will take a crack it to see if I can help. From what I have read it is a matter of taste vs. vapor. The 510 provides more vapor than a 901 but some think the 901 is smoother for better taste.

I have never tried a 901 so i can't really comment from personal experience.

My hunch is you will be at least ok with it regardless. The people that are unhappy and actively searching for something else like right now - are the ones that bought the "mall" type ecigs. So i wouldn't worry that you made a dreadful mistake or anything like that.

I just bought an EGO 2 days ago (a large battery 501 basically) and most people love it. But I think that there likely is a trade off between taste and vapor - but i am brand new at all this - but have read a LOT of posts on here.

It's not just for starters dude! I've been using a DSE901 for over a year and a half. From what I've learned here on the forum, every model has its own issues. I get everything I need from the 901 (well, almost ; ), so why spend a ton of money trying every kit out there? I only recently tried the mega manual batts from V4L and I really like those so now whenever I feel the need to buy more, that's what I'll get. It produces plenty of vapor, has good flavor and throat hit, comes in 10 colors from Healthcabin, is VERY reasonably priced and it's a perfect size. What more could you want?

Mega Manual form V4L? I guess you are referring to the xtra long ones they came out with? That is the only larger battery they have. I just ordered a KR808 with a passthrough just to test out a KR808 (which is what the V4L is) to compare it to my EGO. I want to see the taste difference. Also, once in a while i want something analog size to appease my brain...:D

Don't want to derail, but I have a simple question about this that might not be worth its own thread...

Are 510 and 901 cartridges interchangeable?

No. The numbers basically refer to the threads and maybe size. Some different models can be connected using an adapter.

(see Boxheads reply on the next page - apparently the 2 are compatible)

After reading some, like you, I started to worry about the 901. I almost went on a buying binge, but then I decided to read some more before I started spending more money. You have to charge the 901 a lot. I would say that's the biggest negative about it. I have 2 passthroughs, use one at the computer, and one in my little "nest" on the couch - that way I don't have to charge and re-charge.

I'm thinking about what I'll get next, though. :D

i was just pointing out that its a great first ecig as he's a starter.there are many, many worse options out there for beginners.

Just got my 901 2 days ago to mark my 2 months free of analogs :) like someone posted in this forum 901 vaping experience is the closest thing to analog smoking, the flavor is all there, the vapor is ok, but the best thing for me is you can drag it like you use to do with an analog, with my riva the atty is getting hot very fast, 901 maybe due to the higher resistance don't get hot too fast.
