Hey everyone!

So I've been vaping my Thermo at 6volts using the 1.5ohm Dual Coil cartos and unprotected 16340s and have been in vape heaven. I just got Tenergy 3volt protected 16340s (the blue ones) and they will not work with my Dual coils. Does anyone know if the higher ohm Dual coils work with Tenergy protected batts?

Thanks!

So.... You're trying to use buck regulated LiCo cells of ~500mAH true capacity to drive an 8C load?

This is the sort of behavior that will lead to ecigs getting a very bad name and reputation. We can only be thankful that the protection circuit prevented you from success.

Eric

@Eric: Ok. I am a philosopher by education and trade not an electrical engineer so I gather what you're saying is that using 1.5 ohm carto with 2 900mah 3 volt batteries could get me blown up. Ok, getting blown up is not something I want. I've been vaping at 6 volt with unprotected batts (I know not the best idea). So...what carto can I use to have the best vape at 6 volts? I realize vaping with stacked batts is inherently dangerous, but I'm will to take the risk for a cigarette like vape. I've only been vaping for a month and I recognize I have a lot to learn.

Thanks.

They do work it must be you connection of some sort because I have some dual coils and vaped with them using these AW LiFePO4 Batts x2 for 6v, it is a bit to hot of a vape for me and only very short 2 second vapes are needed to achieve a good hit, you also have to have a totally soaking wet carto and keep it like that to vape at 6v but to hot and to many watts and stresses the doo doo out of those Batts !

@mwa: Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty sure the lifepo batts don't have a protection circuit like the protected lith-ions do. I tried 4 different dual coils and different sets of batts. They did not work. Then I put on an HV atty and every set of protected batts worked. Though the same dual coils work great with my unprotected batts. I may need to buy some lifepo batts, lower mah but worth it.

I'm still interested in know what cartos work best with 2 stacked protected lithium ion batts.

I use just standard 2.8-3.0 "whatever that word is" cartos with 2 (protected) RCR123 batteries. I don't use LR or HV or dualies or any of that stuff. I like cheap ;-)
I like the vape. It's very warm and flavorful. Excellent throat hit.

I read a lot of folks that know a lot more than me saying it's not a good vape, but it's kept me off cigarettes for over 2 years. I'm just sayin.

Hubby ha a degree in electrical stuff and he likes his closer to 5V so he put a regulator in his.

<edit> some flavors get washed out at 6V, but others seem to bloom. Depends on what flavors you use

1.5 ohms @ 6 volts = 4 amps @ 24 watts !!!!! that is just crazy HOT , the dual coils in such low ohm values are not a good idea for the batteries we use , the protected ones are doing their job SHUTTING DOWN ! .
4 amps is way past the capacity of the battery to operate in a safe area , Use a 3 ohm or higher DC carto, 3 ohms will give you 2 amps of current draw @ 12 watts a much safer operating area for the battery .

BTW MOST people like around 7-9 watts for good taste and TH. ( we did a BUNCH of tests on this ! )

So to be safe use this calculator to know what your current draw will be ( also goto battery university to read up on Li-ion batts etc, so you are better informed, ) or you could try VV ( variable voltage ) and not worry about it.

You're not understanding how they work... they're not 2 x 1.5ohm coils, that would be ......ed.

No they are 2 x 3 ohm coils in parallel that = 1.5 ohms , BTW two LR coils in series say 1.5 ohms would give you 3 ohms and the same surface area ! so maybe just 1 coil @ 3 ohms HUMMMMM ???? also no matter how they are arranged the device only see;s the TOTAL RESISTANCE not the individual coils , now if one coil is a lower resistance than the other one then it will use more current thus it will run hotter than the higher res. coil. We can do this all day if you like ?

BTW Ret***** is now a politically incorrect word dont you watch TV?

Thanks Princessdee and Buzzkill for your replies, very helpful. I will say vaping at 24 watts is really awesome...wow Cinnamon Red Hots @ 24mg is fantastic!

I agree Buzzkill, I need to turn down the wattage, as much as I like vaping really hard I don't want my batts to vent. Here's my next question: I found Boge Cartos (I prefer cartos over attys, I hate dripping) rated at 3.4 ohm, but I am having trouble finding Dual Coil cartos over 3 ohm. I would prefer using the dual coils. Do any of you know where I can find DCs over 3 ohm? I'd like to vape around 9 to 10 watts. Thanks!!!

I've only seen the dual coils as high as 2.5 ohm from one vendor and that's Avid Vaper. All the other vendors I've seen only sell the 1.6 ohm ones. AW makes an IMR 18350 so you could stack two of those with the 1.6 ohm dual coils and get huge wattage without overloading the batts, but your talking 36W. That would be like vaping on a volcano, like the ones that have lava coming out of them.

That reminds of the 3V CR2 days, when folks were using a pair to replace a 14500. Joye 510's were quite popular then (the LR atty of it's day). Everyone was waiting on a protected version, but unfortunately when it came the protection circuit would kick in when used with Joyes.

It's hard to say what a pair of Tenergy 3V Li-PO4s will do at 1.5Ω but you will definitely be pushing them way past their rated spec.
Maximum discharging rate:< 550 mA

I would assume that's why a pair of Tenergy Li-PO4s only produce about ~5.2V (loaded/vaping) with normal atties, not 6V. They just can't quite keep up.

Get the 3 ohm ones , 3 ohms @ 5 volts = 8 watts and 1.6 amps , for a 2.5 ohm it will be 10 watts @ 2 amps so 2.5 ohms would be perfect for you .
