I read somewhere that dual coil cartos are not recommended for eGos. Is this true? If so then why? I have a Twist and am waiting on my Texas Tuff tank but I would like to order some replacement cartos for it. I don't want to have any problems with my battery so getting the correct parts is very important to me.

This is copy/pasted from the Altsmoke vendor's website concerning dual coil cartomizers:

"NOTE: these are not sutiable for eGo, 510, 901 or mosfet driven type batteries. These are meant to be used with 3.7 volt mods with a switch capable of handling 2 or more amps. Simple testing shows that although these are low resistance, they work wonderfully on 5 and 6 volt devices. Your results may vary and the protection circuits on some batteries at higher voltages may see these as a short and not work."

Does that mean batteries like Twists/Spinners set at higher voltages?

Yes, If I understand what I have read correctly. A dual coil carto, for example 1.5 ohm, is essentially powering two 3.0 ohm single coils. It will reduce the battery life and require more amps. After reading that, I use the single coil. After all, you can always believe what you read on the internet right? Buongiorno

If I am understanding the replies correctly then my major issues might be shortened battery life or the carto not working at all. Please correct me if I am wrong here. I don't want anything that may cause any catastrophic failures in my batteries (i.e. destroying the battery or causing it to overheat or explode)

I dunno. I didn't write it.

What are the amp limits for a Twist or Spinner?

I believe this was the reason the Provari was upgraded from version 1.0 to 2.0, to raise its amp limit for low resistance atomizers.

To the OP, is there a particular reason you wish to use dual coil carts? It is a fact that at minimum, dual coils will drain any battery faster than single coils will. And for what benefit?

No reason. Just pure curiosity. After reading these replies I will be getting single coils for sure.

Hi Rick, Like mentioned above, the single coil cartos will give you better performance within the limits available on your device. The dual coils are a huge drain, as well as they run much better up where the twist cant get to in voltage. They do work at voltages available to the twist, but they shine well past where the twist can go.

My opinion is this, The dual coils work just fine at ego voltages, keep in mind that you are running two 3ohm coils. Where do you typically run 3ohm coils? I run above 5volts. The same is true on dual coil cartos(for me), this is because I enjoy a warmer vapor. I also prefer liquids that perform better at a higher wattage.... The benefit of a dual coil carto is that you have twice the coil area in contact with the liquid, allowing more liquid to be heated when compared to a single coil.

The downside is that they are very taxing on the battery. The dual coil 1.5 ohm at max voltage on a twist would require 3.2ampers of current, which the twist is reliabe and limited to 2.5amperes of output. So with this in mind, the twist would be limited to an available voltage output of up to 3.74...... you can adjust the dial above this setting but the protection onboard should limit the output, throttling it back within the limits. Or blinking the fail diagnostic lamp for low ohm load. Even at maximum output available your limit would about 9.4 watts, now divide this between the two coils, and you have a meager 4.7 watts per coil. Yes it should do a reasonable job but you could do better, with less strain on your device.

Single 2ohm coil is what the maximum for the twist(opinion) to be able to use through the entire voltage range. At maximum output a 2ohm load will draw 2.4 amperes of current, producing 11.5watts of heat. This will allow you to adjust the overall temperature of your vapor to your personal tastes, and the limits of that specific liquid. I have some liquids that dont like much more than 7watts, I have some that do just fine above 25watts, everything has its own limits. These are some of the ones that I know about, first hand.

Good Luck. Happy Vaping.
