My new Provari Mini is on the way and just bought some accessories from cov. I got a DCT MAP tank with some 3ohm dual coil cartos....realized after placing the order that although 3ohm cartos were recommended for use with the Provari, I never researched whether dual or single coil....dual ok? If so whats your opinion on ideal volts?

EDIT: I think I'll move this topic to the appropriate sub forum (APV Discussion)

i just pulled the trigger myself and ordered the mini in black, which i've been dying for since i got into vaping about 5 months ago. i finally talked myself into it, after spending so much money on every shiny tube type thing i have seen-i have a varitube (which i got for 40 bucks in a kit-couldn't say no to that!), a lavatube mini that i found on the classifieds for 20 bucks (can't say no to that!), an apollo mini stainless steel varitube which i love when it works (i got a good deal on it, and i rationalized the purchase by telling myself that it would give me an idea of the weight/size/form factor of the pv mini, and thanks to that purchase, i decided on the mini), and a mechanical german thing that is built like a tank and hits great at whatever voltage it hits at with lower res cartos)...oh! i almost forgot the vmax i bought on the classifieds as well...it's the regular sized one, and i told myself it would give me an idea of the feel of a regular sized pv, as well as some sort of idea about the menu system...so in short, i have spent quite a bit of $ AVOIDING the purchase of the pro vari, which i am so happy to say is on it's way to me...finally!

in response to your question, i think dual coil will be fine-as far as i can figure out from the info i've seen (and please let me know if i'm wrong, because i'm still trying to figure the whole cartomizer resistance and coil thing out myself), dual coils produce more vapor, but make the battery work a bit harder...am i right about this? i still haven't found the magic combo of cartomizer and voltage, but what seems to work best is 2.5 or 3 dual coils at around 4 volts. i hope to have a better understanding of all of this when i finally get the pro vari in my hands. apparently, you can use just about anything on it without worrying, because you can set the voltage very low as well as high.

so sorry about the rambling post...i'm just so excited about the fact that i actually hit the buy button after months of wanting to do it! i haven't been this excited about spending this much cash on a device since i bought my first real smart phone!

It should it goes up to 6 volts if it is like the full size. I have a rebuildable that came out out to 3.4 ohms on mine but it just barely works good. Next time I'll leave out a couple of twists of wire to lower it a bit. But is works good at 6 volts. I do have to push the button a sec or so before i take a drag on it to let the coil completely heat up.

My own personal experience, I switched over from 2.0 ohm dual coil cartos to 2.0 ohm single coils in my cartotanks when I only had a Silver Bullet. I then got my Provari and used the 2.0 ohm single coils in it until it was time to reorder cartos. I got some 3.0 ohm single coils this time for the Provari. I can't say I saw a whole lot of difference, but I rarely set my voltage above 5.0v

I use the pre-punched cartos. I had been using the Smoktech brand, but recently had the opportunity to try the single coil Punched! Ikenvape Mega Platinum single coils (2.5 ohm). I think I have found a new favorite. I base my criteria for cartomizers mainly on flavor production and no burnt taste, and these certainly are a win.

I happen to have a handy list of online vendors that sell pre-punched single coil cartomizers along with direct links to their websites in my blogs under my avatar. I explain my preference for single coil cartos on the blog. Should you still prefer the dual coils, just find your preference while on their website.

a 3 ohm dual coil cartomizer would be equivalent to a 6 ohm single coil in resistance.....reverse engineering ohm's law, we can find that the usual sweet spot for people (8watts) would be fairly hard to obtain with ANY mod....lets do math.

so lets say you want 8 watts (just as an example)

we would take 8 watts and multiply this by 6 ohms, which would give us a figure of 48....the square root of 48 is 6.92.....

so it would take a total power imput of 6.92 volts to give you the standard 8 watts of power to the coils...

the provari has a voltage limit of 6.0 volts, leaving you almost a full volt of power away from ideal....to give you an idea on max power....

6 volts squared equals 36....divide that by 6 and you get....6, meaning 6 watts is the MAXIMUM power you can get to that coil on a provari....not bad, but not great, especially when some people like 10 watts+ for some juices.

hope all that helps....i'd highly recommend grabbing some single coil cartos though, as i find they are less finicky and produce much better vapor...the ikenvape platinums are the best ones on the planet right now....try them out, i think you'll be pleased.

Wow...thanks for that. I will order a few of those @ standard res and give them a try. I rarely go much higher then 4 volts-and I hear the single coils are easier on the batteries, too. I really do appreciate the help. The ProVari is such a big commitment, and I want to do the right thing with it and get the most out of it. I love the vmax, but I hear it can't hold a candle to the ProVari. Also, I miss my vivi nova tanks. I just can't get them to work on the vmax. No matter what res head and voltage, I get a burnt wick taste. My buddy has a ProVari and uses the nova with no problem.
Thanks for all the input, folks. I should already know something as obvious as what kind of carto to get, but I am a babe in the woods here. I just conquered the twist, and I felt like I knew a thing or two. Now, with the ProVari purchased, I am a noob again.

Thanks Mattias I was going to say this myself, although not so eloquently put. IF youre worried about having to buy new batteries and also charge them constantly, get rid of your dual coil cartos those things require a ton of volts and chew through batteries like its their job.

Im one of the people who dont mind a cooler vap, I smoked Marlboro Lights for years, for me Ive found that 1.7ohms at 3.7 volts is perfect for my juices and also for battery life.In the long run Im saving money because the batteries dont go dead as fast and also as a result last longer before I have to buy completely new ones.
