I have a very old buzz and the DCs work great. Batteries get very warm and the lifespan is shortened, but it does work. 5V is well over 15 watts of power, so I am not surprised things get warm. I typically use DCs at around 4.2-4.5V.

Ya 15 watts is pushing it to the limit ! and that has got to be HOT HOT !

I usually stay at about 4.2 with the DCs but my friend stays even below that and says her Buzz gets fire hot. My Buzz does not get hot except with a set of older batteries that I have. Wonder why that is?

4.2 volts at 1.6 ohms is 11 watts this is a lot of power draw , the batteries will heat with higher current draw , and they will change over time, as they get older they are not as efficient and will produce more heat as wasted energy.

high current draw is the worst case for a battery it has all kinds of bad effects on them .

Not good with the math, but when I run them at 3.7v and the DC's meter at 1.5 ohms = 9 ish watts? And mine (older Buzz) gets hot, hot. Like hold it in front of the AC vent in the car to cool off, hot. I am using newly purchased flame Trustfires 16340 3.7v so not sure how old they really are but they were bought new ... could it be something else? 9 watts is a lot of power drain on these?

I can run the DCs on my box mod with a single 14500 3.6v old and well-loved battery, get nearly the same run time in hours as the Buzz and not get the heat.

Just trying to understand it , thanks for any info!

The Buzz dumps the excess heat into the tube so it will have to dissipate that heat by convection ( Or airflow ) heavy vaping at these currents will generate heat in the original Buzz

I know and I know your opinion of LR but I just really love the flavor that these DCs put out :) I understand it will shorten my battery life but it is worth it to me. My friend is only running them at 3.7V and it gets fire hot so she is running them lower and her Buzz gets hot when mine does not when I run higher voltage. That is what I am trying to understand. :)

Yep, same here. 5V even on DC carto's measuring 1.6.

Mike, will the Buzz Pro be able to handle this?

From our tests YES ! it actually performs a trick and throttles down the current to maintain the voltage and operate in its safe area but you will not notice it it is all internal.

5CS is testing some 1.5 ohm attys right now on the PRO Beta unit.

Yup, here I am. My ears were burning, lol.

Guess I am a heavier vaperer (is that a word??) than I realized!
